Back to a TT

We were stacking 18' of toys into 15' of shared garage space. Now we have a dedicated 20' garage (45' overall) that comes with us only about half the time, but we also have a 8' flatbed trailer (33' overall) or basket carrier (25' overall) that are used on other trips. We loved the space of our toy hauler and the large capacities, but what we have now is so much more flexible for the variety of camping we do. Too bad they don't make RV's like Lego blocks so we could build what we need for each trip - This is the closest I have found to my Lego set.

That's a nice size combination. We went from toy hauler to truck camper because we wanted a bigger garage without having a bigger trailer and also to keep the toys out of the living space. I bet you are about 45' long like me?

Yep, right at 45 feet.... You're current set up is very close to my previous set up. And yes, there is something to be said for toys in a totally separate space. We are finding ourselves bringing toys about half the time. Our dirt bikes (not our ATVs) totally fit in the back garage area.

I'm all in favor of choosing the RV/traveling domicile that suits your current needs. It is beyond form-follows-function. Example: This past July we camped the Oregon Coast with all our kids and grandkids. What a great time. Jeanie and I were in our TC with one or other of the g-kids for sleeping. Our kids rented a 26' Class C for the 8 days we were out, so we traveled in two vehicles and arrived at our daily destination(s) and hooked up.

Any time you get more than two breathing beings in our TC it is instantly too many occupants. The C had marginal sleeping space for 5 (including the family dog) and it was slightly more roomy with the 'token' slide-out, which was good for playing games at the table with the kids in the evenings. It cost about $2000 to rent and use (fuel) the C for the duration. Did it supply our needs? Yes. The Ford V10, series 4 chassis got 11 mpg, which surprised me since we only got 13 mpg with a much smaller rig. It seemed much easier to actually be somewhere in the C than to travel with it, compare to the TC which wants to keep moving (because it's easy).
A couple months ago I saw a 26' class C for sale: (Ford 5 series chassis, dualie, diesel, 4WD, good ground clearance) and had terrible thoughts of bolting from the TC den into C-dom, but thought better of it since all my stuff is paid for...and we're used to it.

I feel the same way. The TC is good for us, but tight with two people and two dogs. Even a modestly sized 5er with a slide or two would have been much more comfortable, but also much more expensive.

We can get a lot of years out of our $5k camper though, and that's gotta be worth something.

Trying different things is the only way to know what works for us. We never know until we try it. All the research in the world will "help" us make a decision, but until we go out and "do it" we still don't have the life experiences to know if it's the best thing for our needs or not.

I've contemplated selling my AF811 and going to a tow behind RV..... but I haven't decided yet.

We have gone from tent to travel trailer to pop up trailer to toy hauler to truck camper. Right now, the truck camper has proved to be the most versatile RV for us. We do feel cramped for space when the weather turns bad, but that can solved in the future with a larger TC. When we choose the next TC, we will have a truck that will open up these models to us. That will allow us to choose a triple slide model with taller floor (lower bed height and more basement) and side door. We like the fact that the TC can be removed or stay on the truck based on where we camp and that the truck has sufficient power to haul just the TC or big enclosed trailer behind it.
