battery in frig

Anybody ever hear of a battery being in the control circuitry of an Rv frig?
  • Sorry folks, false alarm. "Battery" turned out to be an electrical cover upon closer inspection. Another lesson learned! HA!

    IM only guessing at this.
I never heard of a set up like that from any fridge mfg. My guess would be that the previous owner was talented enough to install it in a professional manner , so it appears as if its an OEM product.
It may run a small fan in a roof vent to help cool it on hot days , it may be an emergency backup battery to run the fridge on gas in the event the house battery dies in the middle of the night . It could operate a self installed 12v interior light .
It might be wired to charge back up when driving the rig .

This was my first thought, ie, someone was proficient enough to do a "factory install". Hoping to see a pic today. Would be interested to see what's going on with this strange anomaly.

  • Sounds like a 'reignitor' to provide DC Voltage for Spark/Ignition

Be interesting to find out brand/model/year of that fridge
  • Don't know. Belongs to a friend. Trailer new to him. It's outside the trailer under the exterior cover. He swears it's a factory installation. I had never heard of it before.
  • In addition to the 12 vdc system? This is an older frig (03) and has an additional battery installed in the circuit. Like an emergency light battery in size. Small dry cell.
  • Newer RV refrigerators need 12 volts to operate.
