Battery Monitor Install

Hello,
I have been researching battery monitors as I would like to have a way to accurately keep track of my 2 6v batteries. I have a Nash 25c with a 100w roof top panel wired to the zamp 7amp controller.
I have been looking around the net, but have not been able to find how to wire a monitor like the trimetric into my system. Do I need to run new wires? Can I use the existing wires to my control panel and or solar charger? If anyone can help get me started I would really appreciate it. Thanks! Matt

Getting the wires inside will for sure be a challenge.

I am still trying to figure out the same thing for my upcoming meter installation.

OP The shunt is connected to the negative battery cable and the small wires are routed to the display.

Here's my battery monitor shunt and battery switch. Flattened 3/4" copper pipe makes a nice buss bar. Note: These are AGM batteries and locating a shunt near flooded batteries should be avoided due to the corrosive battery fumes. The copper buss bar color is due to battery protective spray.

The switch is a full battery disconnect located on the negative terminal. The large cable on the switch is the chassis ground. The smaller cable on the battery post is for a parallel connected battery. The small wires are for the battery monitor.

Any decent monitor you buy like Trimetric, Victron, etc. will have the full instructions and use manual included with the device. I have a Victron and it came with the pair of small wires needed and the shunt. The shunt will need to be installed between your trailer's main 12V frame ground and the frame. Some users just attach the shunt to the negative terminal of the battery and the frame ground connection. This works for most folks. The small, included, wire pair is then led back from that shunt location to the monitor panel.
