battery suggestions?

Just picked up a used dutchman 26f. Its my first trailer with an electric slide and I had no idea it needs 12v to operate. My battery is toast to the point it takes hours plugged in to house power to even move. What battery to you suggest thats not too expensive? I wont be going off the grid with it. ALso, I notice the lights run off of 12v while plugged in. What else does?

I actually forgot I have a deka group 49 battery sitting around. It's still in great shape and has 180 rc. I bought a big battery box so I'll give it a shot.

I've had good luck with the Walmart 27DC for $80. We can overnight with it if needed.

I am sorry to say I also got the same impression that "You don’t sound like the maintenance type of person if you don’t know 12 volts and trailers".

It is difficult for a first poster to know how much info to give up front.

We cannot read your mind and know everything you meant to say. So often, we read wrongly and offense is taken.

You indicate you don’t know it takes 12 volts to move the slide.
You don’t really know what else runs off 12 volts on a travel trailer.
Therefore I assumed you don’t know much about the TT systems power requirements or battery maintenance. Therefore I was trying to give you the easy button on battery selection for the beginner.
I was just st trying to help, but everyone these days takes everything so personal.

Huh? Never did I say anything about what you do not do I care. You made a false accusation that I don't care about maintenance when all I did is ask a simple question to educate myself on the subject. I am a mechanic btw just never has a trailer with a electric slide.

I dont know maintenance? I own 6 vehicles and 5 off road vehicles all I do is maintenance! This is the first camper Ive ever had with an electric slideout so I needed to learn a little more about the campers in general. My hybrids battery is fine and the slide is manual so I never worried about its battery.

Yeah sorry for that..... I don’t have 25 years experience in semiconductors and being an ASE master auto tech...... I just roast peanuts for a living. Just trying to help.

I have tried lost of different batteries in my RV, boat and diesel truck. It takes 6 of them to keep them running. Mostly I buy batteries from Costco keeping an eye on the cold cranking amp rating.

I have tried the 6 volt golf cart batteries and several others that cost more. They really don't perform much better than the basic ones from Costco.

Look at your DC distribution panel where the 12V fuses are located. Hopefully the circuits will be labeled.

We have the original TT battery it is going on five years old. When traveling we have discovered that our battery lasts about two or three days. Since we rarely camp off grid this is usually sufficient.

The very few time we have intentionally been off grid for three to five days, I bring my trolling motor battery or if it is an unexpected stay, I simply gained another night by hooking up the jumper cables to the truck and TT battery and ran the TV for 15 or 20 minutes. The 7 pin connection does not charge as fast.

In answer to your question, what ever deep discharge battery your TT manual recommend is one that will do the job.

As mentioned if you plan any extended off grid, that is a whole difference story and battery power becomes a serious concern.

RVers do get caught off guard once in while, so you have too improvise like the rest of us.

Warehouse clubs like Sam's or Costco typically have the cheapest prices on batteries. Walmart has good prices also. Any group 24, 27, or 31 marine battery will work fine for your needs. If you occasionally overnight while not connected to 120v then the few extra amp hours you get from the bigger group 31 comes in handy. I wouldn't bother going to 6v.
