Best Towing Mirrors For A 1995 F350?

I did some research awhile ago and it seems the top choices for towing mirrors are the Grand Aero 3, and the McKesh towing mirrors. I was leaning towards getting the Grand Aero 3s.

I have a 1995 F350, so I don't think I can install OEM towing mirrors. Is that correct?

Let me know if you have thoughts on what the best towing mirrors are.

I asked somebody to measure the length from the truck's door to the closer and further away mirror edges with that 2 point mount/gooseneck mirror setup. I'll see what he replies with.

I want something that swings away, just because if something were to hit the mirror or arm, I don't want the door getting damaged.

Somebody told me he has this setup and it works fine. It looks like he has a 1995 F350 (his is DRW, and mine is SRW), and a 10' 11" 2014 Lance 1050S.

In terms of the adapter plates and Chevy or Dodge mirrors, somebody was saying 5280 Custom Fab doesn't reply to calls, so if that's the case, I don't think I'll go that route. It also seems like it could get pricey, and could potentially be a lot of work.

Putting the gooseneck mirror heads on the two-point swing away mounts is worth a try if you already have those mounts on the truck. Otherwise I wouldn’t bother, they’ll never be as sturdy. That’s why the factory didn’t ever do that.
The stock original four point mounts are solid. They don’t fold, but when not towing you can rotate the gooseneck mirror heads around so they lean inward instead of outward.
They are what works best. If full swing-away foldability is a deal breaker, you’re in a tough spot.
You can adapt some late model style mirrors but it’s next to impossible to get that to look right, or use the original swing always with the goosenecks and see if they’re tolerable.
The other advantage to the factory style four point truck mirrors is you can add an extra large wide-angle “spot mirror’ on a small stainless arm.
I did swap my ‘99 Dodge from those four point mirrors to the late model style Ram mirrors, because this truck is factory available with either and they look right. I did it to get the power/heated functions.
Honestly, that’s nice and it looks sleeker but when I’m actually trying to look in them to see what I’m doing, especially a lane chance to the right, I miss my old four point “monkey bar’ mirrors.
Those old factory four point with a large extra wide angle spot mirror added are what works best.

There’s one other option... I put these on my old ‘79 Ford and loved them.
Find a set of these old factory three point “West Coast” mirrors.
West coast mirror I haven’t tried but I’m pretty sure they would fit right on the ‘80-‘97 Ford doors.
There are plenty of aftermarket West Coast style mirrors but they’re huge and have too many bars. The original Ford ones are elegantly slick and simple.
The original mirror heads are small I bought a set of 16” tall big-truck mirrors that were constructed with an end-cap on the top and bottom. Those come apart easily and you can score the mirror glass with one of those little pizza-wheel glass cutter tools from a hardware store. If you shorten the glass 4”, then cut down the other parts, when you reassemble it it fits beautifully onto the Ford brackets.

If you want to get fancy, those truck mirrors are available power and heated, but shortening them from big-truck size to pickup size would get complicated.

You’ll have to source those from a wrecking yard. Those were my favorite mirrors ever.
And you can add a big wide-angle spot mirror on a bracket just below them like on big trucks.

Burningman, do you know if I use the 2 point mounts with the gooseneck mirrors, will they be wide enough for an 8 foot wide camper?

I don't know if this helps, but I got new mirror heads and an extender bolt for my 1987 F350 to make my own "towing mirror" from NAPA. NAPA has a LOT of mirrors and various parts and adapters to basically make whatever you want.

are what works best. But DON’T buy the ones in that link, that’s just to show what the original Ford towing/camper mirrors look like. Get them from a parts truck or wrecking yard from an original Ford truck, these aftermarket ones won’t be quite the same.

Those two-point swing-way mirrors you usually see on the old 1/2 and 3/4 tons are not wide enough to see around a camper. It doesn’t matter what model camper you have, they’re all 8 feet wide.
If you use any sort of extender with the little two-point swing-aways, they will shake.
These are the ones that work.

They were usually on duallies and cab & chasis and they are very common and can’t be too hard to source up from a recycler. Get the real original ones, the quality is better, they don’t shake and you can get replacement parts

So you have a Dodge? Which do you think are the better towing mirrors, the Dodge ones, or the Chevy ones?

Somebody said this, "Chevy tow mirrors don't even look good on chevy trucks and they look even worse on an old Ford. Dodge mirrors, though I'm sure they can be useful, come with the baggage of all the cliches."

What does he mean by "cliches"? That Dodge is known for being unreliable? Does this unreliability really extend to the towing mirrors?

And regarding the Chevy mirrors, again, I don't care how they look, I just want the best mirrors for daily driving, and hauling the camper.

The problem with a cracked glass is finding a replacement glass to fit. I broke one of mine a while back and tried the replacement glass and it lasted maybe a day and fell out. I had to go to a glass shop and have one custom cut so it fit the gasket tight.

Don't know about Burningman's but mine don't extend, they swing out and you flip the head 180. To close them in, you swing them back in and rotate the head 180 again.

Get on Amazon and put in Truck Lite mirrors and scroll through the options...

Somebody told me about these Chevy and Dodge mirror adapter plates for OBS Ford trucks.

I don't care how it looks. I want whatever's best for daily driving and hauling the truck camper.

Is 5280 Custom Fab the only company that makes these mirror adapters?

It looks like these are the 2 options from them:

Both the Chevy and Dodge mirrors look like they can swing away, just in case I were to hit something, or something were to hit the truck.

But the Chevy mirrors look like they extend, and the Dodge mirrors look like they don't. Is that true?

Is there only 1 kind of 99-07 Chevy towing mirror, and 1 kind of 94-02 Dodge towing mirror to choose from?

I measured the camper today and it's around 8' 1" wide, so I think I should have mirrors that extend.

Let me know what you think would be best for my rig, thanks.

If the OEM gooseneck mirror is my best option, I think I'll go with that. What is the part number at the Truck Lite site? They have a ton of mirrors.

Would I also be able to get the 2 point swing away mounts there?

Do I need "Extend-A-Mirror Arms" for use with my truck camper (1996 Lance Squire 8000 which is a 10' 9" size), or just the gooseneck mirrors and the 2 point swing-away mounts?

There's a seller that has the Ford gooseneck mirrors, although one has a crack in it. He says he has: "2 of the large mirrors, 2 set of stainless mounts for the gooseneck mirrors, and 3 brackets for the other style "swing away" mirrors that the larger gooseneck mirror can bolt to."

He's asking $125 shipped for all that. I'm wondering if that's a good price, especially since one of the mirrors is cracked.

I'm mistaken again, Truck Lite sells the OEM Ford mirror head with the hidden (arm through the mirror head) mirror head, in stainless.

You are correct, they are 4 point mount (I went out and looked). 2 on the top horizontal upper bracket and one on each leg. I've never had any door issues but then out 'older trucks' I'm sure have heavier gauge steel in the door skins than newer trucks do.....lol

Ford called them 'Recreational Towing Mirrors'. Mine came with the remote control 'small' mirrors, I had the dealer add the the big ones when I bought the truck. Still have the remote controls on the armrest that don't work anymore....

Actually the good towing mirrors the Fords had then were four-point not three.
The mirror head does fold in but the brackets that bolt to the doors don’t.
I drove tow trucks for years with those and never crunched a door and had the same on my personal trucks without crunching a door, but, it is possible.

The advantage is you get a very solid platform that gets the mirrors out far enough to see around things like campers, and you can add nice big spot mirrors too.

I used McKesh mirrors for years on my Tundra. And now I no longer need them since I have OEM towing mirrors on my new Tundra.

I tried other options and did not want to permanently mount towing mirrors on my truck. The McKesh were great and I highly recommend them.
