Better lower overload spacers

I recently installed lower StableLoads but found them not to my liking. Several things I don't like about them including rattling pins, steel on steel wear, rust and ugly. Going to put them up for sale.

The better route for me was some Energy Suspention 9.9117 bump stops. They are 1" thick polyurethane with a stud on them to hold in place via the hole in the spring that the StableLoad used. To install I just jack the back of the truck up a little(which I had to do to engage the StableLoads)with a floor jack under the trailer hitch and drop them in through the holes. Don't even need to put nuts on them as they can't get away once the Jack is dropped. After using them on a few trips I decided I wanted a little more so I used a hole saw and made some 1/4" thick X 3" diameter washers out of some scrap UHMW and slipped them on the stud. No rattling, quicker install and removal than messing with those little pins/keepers and no wear on the springs. You can get them on Amazon for $16 a pair(need two pair). The picture they show on Amazon for a 9.9117 is wrong. They look like this -

I had the older StableLoads and did not get that pin noise. I had enough friction on the pivot that once I dropped the pin in I would swing the StableLoad against the pin and it would not move. I used all three wedges on my F250, and never had spring slap against the StableLoad wedge. Maybe metal to metal noise is less of issue in a state that is rarely dry and the water works as lubricant. My truck didn't sit around enough for the mating surfaces to rust.

I agree with you on the stableloads pins rattling

This thread is from 364 days ago. Shortly after posting it Torklift contacted me about the rattling pins(they pay attention to customers concerns and respond)and sent me a new set of stableloads to try out. The new ones have a rubber grommet in the pin hole so the pin won't rattle. The steel on steel spring wear is still there so I still went back to the energy suspention drop-in overload spacers. The new and improved stableloads are currently on my sons older superduty undergoing prolonged testing. To get rid of the rattle you could drill the upper pin hole out and put a grommet in it like the new and improved ones.

I agree with you on the stableloads pins rattling and the steel on steel. I'd like to see those wedges made out of a high quality durable rubber that can be rotated out of the way when not in use. My stableloads rattle going down the road when not engaged along with my frame mounts 🙂

I tried hard plastic felling wedges. Ground a couple cost notches across one side to keep hose clamps engaged around them and the spring.
Worked for a trip. Not sure how long the hose clamps would hold up but did exactly what it was supposed to.

Trade it for a Ford as they have pre-drilled springs.

Haha, that's a good idea!
Wait, I have a '15 F250 currently, and had a '13 F250 prior. Dropped the camper on that Ferd one day to move it in the driveway and there was nothing stable loads could have done to keep the camper from burying the back of that 250. Didn't think I was even going to have enough travel in the jacks to get them off the ground! Lol. And I had to put a skateboard under the trailer hitch to keep it off the ground!

Glad to see your a comedian too but we better not quit our day jobs.

Lol yeah. On a serious note, the last 2 F250s I've had, company trucks, have been sprung pretty lightly in the rear. Now they are just plain stripped down gassers but I'd hope there's a heavy load pkg or something for them. Maybe just needs to say 350 on the fender. Both worked fine for me and are 9900gvw but they don't seem to have the springs like the older super Dutys.
Btw nothin runner than jabbing at someone who is brand loyal!
I'm not. They all are pos just depends which one on which day.

Serves you right in ordering the mall cruiser spring option (singled leaf pack with spring under axle) on your F250. What were you thinking? How far do you have to drive to get to a mall anyway? Mine had no trouble with an 811 on its back.

Those are for the upper overload. Supersprings, Torklift and Energy Suspention make similar blocks. The ones I was talking about are for the lower overloads.

Copy that. I was thinking they might offer a similar solution for your application.
