BEWARE! Check your outdoor speakers!

This morning I started on a simple task this morning (or so I thought) to rewire my back up camera from the factory hot lead to my reverse wire to my running lights wire. That way I can simply turn on my lights to see what is behind me.

I pull both rear lamp housings off of my TC so I can see what is what and low and behold behind one of them is wet wires and WET WOOD! Stomach sank.....

My mind quickly scans over the possibilities. I had replaced the shower skylight last year and did my yearly roof inspection just six months ago.

Then I decided to look at the speakers.....they were sealed nicely to the truck, but each speaker cone was completely torn at the bottom. When I washed the truck last night I am sure a ton of water went in each. God knows how long that as been going on.

These are stock Jensen "marine" speakers. I am removing both and sealing p both openings with a round metal/plastic disc. I never use the outdoor ones anyway as there are better bluetooth speakers available for that.

It is going to be very hard to dry out, but I'll do what I can.

My drying out set up....

My experience is that people who play music over outside speakers are typically rude and inconsiderate and have no idea what is reasonable. Reasonable is an ear bud. If the neighbors can hear you music it is not reasonable.

I agree noisy kids and generators can be equally annoying.

Thanks for the reminder, wish mine wouldn't have came with them at all. Why manufactureres put in in this Jenson junk anyways baffles me.

I do like a but of music but I use a small BT speaker that can't be heard outside my site.

I'm camping next to HMS Beagle from now on. I like to hear what the wind whispers thru the Aspens and evergreens. God gives great messages if we would just listen..

I vote no speakers

Not to belabor the point, but if you want quiet, don't go to a campground.

Outside speakers at a reasonable level shouldn't be an issue or louder than any other source of noise at a campground which includes loud adults or kids, vehicles, generators, pets, etc.

On the other hand, if you want to listen to urban hip hop or gangster rap or whatever, why do it in a campground? Sit at home and crank it up.

This would not be a problem if 'common sense' were more common than it appears to be.

But I have the same complaint about loud kids or generators, so call me a curmudgeon.

Furthermore, there are the people who camp away from everyone else and not in a campground, for those people, it wouldn't matter how much noise their speakers made because there wouldn't be anyone around to hear it!

Do the rest of the world a favor. Remove those speakers and get yourself some ear buds. I enjoy camping for the peace and quiet, not to hear the neighbors playing their music preferences throughout the campground.

They won't need it since my outdoor speakers aren't on! Who makes the switch for loud people and dogs? 😉

Then, I'd have to fill up the holes. 🙂 Seriously though, my radio has a switch to turn those speakers off or on.

THAT is a terrifying picture KKELLER14K!!

I hope mine is not that bad. Living down here in drought stricken So. Calif., didn't have to worry too much about rain, and it is parked ass end down on a slanted driveway so roof runoff when it did rain hopefully passed over the opening. Most of water intrusion was probably any washing of the rig I did.

The birds, wind thru the trees, and blabby brook are my speakers....

Do you guys have those because you have recordings of the outdoors?? lol just kidding you guys.

I would order without speakers since silence is golden.

Never again...as a matter of fact if you are buying used and something has speakers outside...turn and run...don't even consider it! Consider it is toast under that siding and this is what you will be fixing...such a bad idea. Oh and one more...you think if its less than a year old and covered by a builder if it does leak...not going to happen...it's not their fault the speaker company is at fault...not the builders bad idea...been down this dirt road they will turn you away so fast it will make your head spin...good luck with that. Been there wrecked that!!

Best thing to do with outdoor speakers is remove them. Your campground neighbors with thank you. Your choice in music is not likely to be that of the people around you. OK if you are really, really all alone and miles away from everyone, but don't assume "they probably can't hear it".
