Bottled water vs not

Some recent posts got me to wondering how many of us use bottled water vs campground/bringing from home/other. Why re your choice?

We have the filter for the water system in Rocky, which does a good job. It's a new, fairly pricey filter FR has gone to recently, but DH used to say that the one we had in the ROO only got the big chunks out. This one seems much better. We had a PUR faucet filter in the ROO and liked it a lot, so put one in Rocky. We like the taste and the fact that it does remove other assorted "stuff". Usually we get a whole season with 4 refill cartridges.

We don't use bottled water because we don't like the idea of all those plastic bottles going into landfills. We have 4 reusable plastic bottles that we fill part way, put in the freezer before leaving and they go in a small insulated bag that goes in the truck....cold water enroute. Easy enough to refill, refreeze and start over. And these are designed to be reused.

For the first time, my strategy of Wal-Mart filter outside and ZeroWater pitcher inside has failed me. The city water here at this CG still has a bad metallic taste (but tests 000 for you ZW folks..). So I guess it will be bottled water for drinking on this trip.

Our city water taste like******with all the treatment so in the kitchen it is filtered. Filling the FW tank with that is something we do, but don't use for cooking or drinking. We will hook up and filter the water we hook up to in the RV, if it tastes bad then we use the bottle eater we bring along.

yeah, that chlorine is something to worry about. 🙂

Actually, it is:

"The link between chlorine and bladder and rectal cancers has long been known, but only recently have researchers found a link between common chlorine disinfectant and breast cancer, which affects one out of every eight American women. A recent study conducted in Hartford, Connecticut found that women with breast cancer have 50-60 percent higher levels of organochlorines (chlorine by-products) in their breast tissue than cancer-free women.
But don't think that buying bottled water is any solution. Much of the bottled water for sale in the U.S. comes from public municipal water sources that are often treated with, you guessed it, chlorine. A few cities have switched over to other means of disinfecting their water supplies. Las Vegas, for example, has followed the lead of many European and Canadian cities in switching over to harmless ozone instead of chlorine to disinfect its municipal water supply." I don't think TDS would be the thing that I feared most.

We use bottled for coffee & drinking, not only for safety but for taste. Had a few experiences where CG water was brownish.

I use bottled water to make coffee, just tastes better. We drink bottled water for the same reason even though I have a filter for the water service to our trailer.

Why do you trust water coming from a clear plastic bottle and not water from your home source ?

Only use bottle water for drinking on the road. Rest of the time with the 2 filters in the camper have not had any problems with the water.

We bought an inline filter for the campground water supply, which is then also run thru a Brita for coffee, tea and drinking water. I hate bottles of plastic everywhere. So unnecessary....

CG water for everything except coffee and drinking. Picked up a 7 gallon jug with a spigot, at 20 cents a gallon to fill you can't beat the price. Yeah I could fill from the tap for free but then I'd have to lug the jug from the condo to the truck, there is a water vending maching at the gas station on the corner, so I just stop there on the way out.

I spend 5 months a year RVing in Mexico where i have to use bottled water. It has become a habit elsewhere

You can use peroxide instead of bleach in the tank.
Use 4 oz of peroxide (3%) every 50 gallons

I have been making coffee and drinking the water from my tanks either brought from home or gotten in a campground for the last 40 years and am still alive and well. The DW on the other hand refuses drink the water or use the ice and has to have bottled water for everything except her shower. Don't think she has been any healthier than me all these years.

X2 except the DW doesn't use bottled water either.
