I want to hear about the new truck you're going to order, Brad!

We all need to argue and fuss about brands, engines, trannys and such like they do over on the tow vehicle forum. :B

We are approaching retirement and plan on doing a lot of travelling, so we thought it would be a good idea to get a new truck. Our 2006 F-350 DRW Powerstroke has been pretty much flawless, but its getting close to being 10 years old.

Right now we plan on ordering a 2016 late in the summer; probably a Red Ford F-350 DRW 4x4 XLT, either an extended cab or a 4-door.

Thinking about Torklift tiedowns and extended hitch this time. We never had that brand and I wanted to try them out.

We always get the bed Line-X'd, but I think you can get that from the factory now. I'll have to check that out.

Probably just keep the factory shocks. We put 9000's on this dually. Didn't notice a huge improvement in handling like the improvement the 9000's made on our SRW trucks.

And unfortunately it will have an automation transmission because Ford quit building real trucks with real transmissions a while back to keep the tree huggers and central government regulators happy.

It wouldn't be the first time I had to delete one of my own posts. A little bit of schizophrenia goes a long way. ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

The newer Ford automatic six-speed combined with the exhaust brake make it essentially a 12-speed. (not that you'll ever need that much gearing)
You're going to love the new PowerStroke - it's light years ahead of the old 2006 models.

I agree that the Exhaust brake is terrific but I don't know how it makes it essentially a 12-speed??

Perhaps I exaggerate? But for example, in tow haul 3rd gear going down hill - if needed, 2nd will really pull it low - but if in 3rd and activating the exhaust brake, it creates an action that feels like a "low" 3rd gear but not as low a 2nd gear.
Same for the other gears combined with exhaust brake usage.
Hope that makes sense as to what I meant. . .

Sounds like a good plan Brad. Retirement......new truck.........Torklift tiedowns........I even like the color.

I was particularly interested in what your plans were regarding the tranny, knowing how you feel about clutches and stick shifts (me too). It's a bitter pill having to go with the slush-box, I know. I've grown to appreciate and get along with mine, but love it? Never! The tow/haul mode is nice, but to tell the truth I liked the US Gear exhaust brake I put on my old '95 better. It'll grow on you.

You didn't say, but are you sticking with Diesel, or going back to a gasser? I could retire at any time myself, and I'll probably get a retirement truck when I do. Been thinking a lot about a gas motor. Sure wish you could still get the V10 without having to buy a cab and chassis.

If the wide-track front axle is an option on your new truck, get it. The turning radius of those is awesome.

Brad,
We didn't order our truck and it didn't have the factory spray in bed liner:( so dealer had line-X sprayed in. I find it to slick so we put a rubber mat in the bed. It gives grip for objects and protects the hitch pucks.
Brad this is strictly between you and me I wouldn't want this spread all over RVNET
I feel the same way about automatics, but since Ford offered us no other choice We went ahead and bought a truck with an automatic and I'm really getting to like this transmission. but don't tell anyone.
