Bug time in the South West

Bugs? We don't have no stinking bugs! Actually, we have very few mosquitoes during the summer and virtually none now. Get near a feed lot and you may get some flies. Leave your bug spray at home.

I,ve been there in feb,march,apr, even at the lake I was not bothered by bugs enjoy your trip.

Do scorpions count as bugs?

We live in coastal southern Calif -- we eat outside, on our patio, three meals a day, from April 1 to October 31, every year. No screen room, no DEET, no bug spray.

Having said that, there are lots of mosquitoes in the Sierra in the summer.

Where I am we get hawks, road runners, doves, hummingbirds, quails, owls, lizards, seen two scorpions in 8 yrs, see a bee now and then and a few spiders. When I'm smoking ribs or whatever a fly or two may show up. Hear coyotes at times. That's about it here in Sonoran Desert.
Do need to be mindful of snakes, killer bees, scorpions, etc. No really nuisance bugs in desert, but if bitten by the critters we do have they will either kill you or make you very sick. :)

scorpions are getting started and so are the ANTS (bring your comet to block them) .. not much else other than those items mentioned by Rollnhome.

Scorpions are bugs, but I was more concerned about mosquitoes and fleas and ticks for the dog.

Mosquitoes - not much of a problem. There are fleas and ticks. Not horrible, but they're here. However you treat your dog at home will work just fine.
