Buying advice MSRP vs current sale price

Looking for some advice on the advertised price from local rv dealership. Stopped by and looked at a 2014 Cougar 26BHSWE. Stickers at $29,995 and their current sale price was $23,995. Is this their best price or do you all think there is more room to haggle. I appreciate any info you all can offer.
  • Just dealt with something similar.
    $29,995 sticker price
    $26,995 dealers "sale" price
    $23,895 Clearance model closeout price
$22,995 with our WDH package, brake controller, misc. sewer hoses, h20 regulator type stuff.
  • Thanks for the input guys. Going to stop back in this weekend maybe and show to the family. And go from there.
  • I call every dealer I can find with the same model and tell them what the last dealer I called quoted me. Eventually you find the bottom and you can take that to the dealer you are working with and want to buy from. I was able to get about 30 percent off sticker.

I like saying "I assume this is your first day on the job"?
    bumpy
  • never ever pay the price on the window, theres always alot of room to deal. seems all dealers play the game . if you don,t like to barter. look at the rv offer what you will pay , if they don,t take it walk. if they can do the price they,ll call you.
  • MSRP is $33,148
    30% off MSRP is $23,203

Their sale price is $23,995....so that sale price is close to 30% off MSRP which is where it should be for a starting point......30% off MSRP is typical/norm

SO there is ALWAYS room for negotiations.....

As suggested......offer $18,000 out the door. And don't get emotional..it's a 'thing' not a new baby, girlfriend, wife etc. Just a thing.
Lots of 'things' out there for sale......it's not the only/last one.

Ask the salesman...."There's a couple of things you do with trailers. Collect them or sale them. Which do you want to do with this one?"
  • You can probably get them down to around 20-21k for sure. I've always figured a decent selling price was around 70-75% of the MSRP though that does depend on models and availability.
  • That is pretty darn good. My dealer said at just about any RV dealer you can automatically shave 20% off MSRP sale or no sale. I started my bidding at 50% off MSRP. I got a $34,000 MSRP down to $21,500. I've been in sales for 15 years (not RV or Car Sales). Offer $18,000 to start. You'll go back n forth a while. It's even good to walk away. Give them your # and tell them to call you when they are willing go go lower. They'll say things like someone is coming in to pick up this unit tonight but they haven't sealed the deal so you more than welcome to get it not etc....They'll play on your emotions. Don't look eager. Find ads on the internet that have the same model for $18 etc. Have fun.
