Cab and Chasis needs bed

Working with my dealer on putting together an order for a 15 Dodge 4500 CC with an 84" cab to axle. Now need to find a nice bed that will let me use my Rampage mc lift behind the cab and run the fifth wheel hitch at the axle. To run the Rampage, I need the front of the bed flat with no side rail.

Being in northern NY, there are no manufacturers up here so it's kid of hard to find what I need. The CM SK series looks like what I'm looking for but there's no dealer anywhere near me. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

  • Are you looking for new only or would you go used also. I know a guy here in Canada who wants to take his flatbed off and run just bare frame. It has a thin headache rack and no sides on it.
  • Yes, I'd be interested in the list, flyfisher. CM lists 2 dealers, one in Ct and the other in Vt. Just trying to figure which would be closer. EBY in Pa is a possible but 2 other fitters up here (2 hours north of you) don't have what I want.

Bedlam, the Rampage fits in a 8 foot bed with the gate closed so that won't be the problem. It will likely handle the extra foot of bed height but that means a low hitch.

Still up in the air with the dealer on a package so I may just go look elsewhere.
  • I live in upstate NY also your right there are no manufactures here but tons of places that sell and install flatbeds. You may have to do some traveling to get the bed you want installed that is what I did. There is a place in CT. called Trailer Depot that sells CM truck beds you could called them to see what they have. Depending on where you live and how far you want to travel I have a list of body installers I can PM you if you would like or you can call the makers of the bed and they will tell you where their dealers are located. Some of the auto dealers will only work with one place so you may have to do some of your own leg work to find what you want.
  • My flat bed deck sits over a foot higher than the pickup bed. Is there enough adjustability in the Rampage Power Lift to handle the extra height? You are limited to 8.5' width, so the ramp cannot be longer unless it telescopes in and out. You could save some of the height by mounting the Rampage on the frame rails and then have a deck without a headache rack behind it...
  • Ramyankee, unless I get an aluminum bed, likely. That's why the 4500.

Bedlam, dealer does have an upfitter he uses but they don't have a bed close to what I want. I'll give the Ford dealer a call and see who they use but likely it will be one of 2 companies. Both use a sculptured side panel that won't let me set the Rampage sideways.
  • I have the Palfinger Badger on my 5500 to haul my truck camper, but it has a gooseneck inset for future use. I chose the Palfinger because it had a low skirt in the rear allowing me to mount a SuperHitch Magnum receiver off the rear.

I assume you will be getting the 84" CA model 4500 that has longer wheelbase. This should give you the room to haul the bike and FW at the same time.

Any dealer selling chassis cabs should have upfitters available. You will find Ford dealers have a better grasp on upfits - Most of their chassis cab offering will work with your Ram.
  • Nice site.
Just curious, I am guessing that the flat bed will weigh more than the standard box bed.
  • Howdy!

I had my first hauler bed built by Larry Herrin. Family business and can build you what you need not just a bed. They have done a lot of custom beds for HDT's. They can build the bed with the loader you want also. Suggest you give them a call.
