Can I walk on my TT roof?

I have a 2014 Keystone Passport 238ml. I am unable to find an answer for this question and I am still waiting to hear back from Keystone. Does anyone out there know if I can walk on my roof. If so what would be the weight limit?

If you happened to own a Keystone Outback, Keystone specifically states on their brochure that the roof is fully walkable. Outback brochure

If you own a Keystone Passport, the brochure makes no mention of the roof being walkable, therefore I think it would be safe to say that a Passport roof is not walkable. Passport brochure

All makes and models are not the same regarding roofs being walkable. Our KZ roof (alum. trusses with arched interior ceiling) is walkable and does not come with a ladder, but a ladder is optional.

Personally, I don't like the idea of a vertical ladder to get onto the roof and would never use one attached to an RV. Leaning a ladder against the side (with protection at top to prevent damage) is safer IMO. Falls off ladders are the no. 1 cause of personal injury at home or on construction sites (DW works for our workers comp. board).

I have a Skyline Nomad. Curved roof. No ladder.

from my owners manual:

"Generally, only models factory equipped with an exterior ladder have a roof capable of walking on. Otherwise walking or stor- ing materials on the roof is not recommended."

I walk on my roof as needed.

Sorry, not really buying that.. Just CYA from keystone... The roof is made the same as those with a ladder.
I feel like a broken record.

Once again: The presence of a ladder means nothing as far as the roof being walkable. Many have ladders and a non walkable roof. And many do not have ladders, and the roof is walkable...

I know it makes no sense... But welcome to the TT world where lots of things make no sense.

I finally was able to call Keystone during my lunch just now. The 2014 Keystone Passport does not have a walkable roof. I guess I will be using a step ladder to reach what I can. I am 6 feet tall so hopefully I can reach everything to check the sealant.

You can jump up and down on an Arctic Fox and even if you're fat like me.

Having a ladder has nothing to do with being able to walk on the roof for a keystone product. A ladder is just an option, they add supports to the rear walls of the TT for the ladder. The roof is built the same way no matter what. You-tube keystone building process, they are all built with the same thickness plywood that can be walked on for maintenance as stated earlier. I walk on mine every time to install / remove the cover. There is absolutely no problem at all with doing this.

Thanks for the idea of the you tube videos. I watched one video for the passport and nothing was mentioned about the roof. I watched another video on the outback and they specifically mentioned that the roof was strong enough to walk on. I will call on Monday and report back what I find out.

If I can't walk on the roof, I don't want it. All roofs should be walkable.

Many travel trailer roofs are coated with a rubber material, but there are many other materials used. To be safe when cleaning your roof, never use solvents, citrus-based cleaners or products containing petroleum in any form. Instead, use a mild detergent (such as dishwashing liquid) along with a medium-bristle brush. Some experts recommend spraying the sides of your RV with water before rinsing the detergent off the roof in order to avoid streaking or damage to the travel trailer's exterior finish. Water can highlight small holes, so make a detailed visual inspection immediately after rinsing to check for holes along seams.

This was part of one of our manuals....I guess this means we can walk on our roof, using common sense and not abusing it. Did not come with a ladder but we bought one. It did say to not use a power washer.

I wouldn't make that assumption. You can wash it if so inclined by using a suitable ladder.

If a TT has a walkable roof.... The manufacturers are not shy about it. They will tout it in their advertising as it is a DESIRABLE feature.

It likely depends on how heavy you are. If you can climb the ladder, you're probably ok.
