Carefree electric awning question

Does anyone lubricate the inside rails of their awning?
If so, what do you use?

I seem to have to "help" our awning when we start extending it outward.

Is this normal?

Thanks in advance.

Is your battery low? These awnings operate on 12 volts, low voltage will cause them to stall on extension or retraction.

    Definitely not low.
  • There is a cam type helper for metal wrapped awnings- it goes around the awning tube, and kicks it out as it rotates.
  • I use slide-out lube for all the hinged and sliding parts. I also use the slide-out lube on the gas cylinder if so equipped.

  • Mine is a Dometic, but similar, and I use either silicone spray for lube, or WD40 to clean the move able joints. If yours is having a binding issue, between mounting brackets and arms, you may be able to push the whole assembly (while extended) in the direction needed, to relieve the bind. I had to do this once, after the wind had pushed it out of alignment.

The electric motors on these awnings do not have much torque/power.

  • Mine was squeaking a bit. Hit it with some silicone spray. All’s quiet now.
