Well, this morning I ordered 4 Carlisle Radial Trail HD tires (ST205/75R15, LRD).
The total price, including shipping, was $234.18 from oneclicktires.com.
I will use the one-year-old Radial Trail RH as the spare.
I also carry a second tire as a spare without the rim. There are places along the way to mount a tire, but finding a proper tire is usually difficult. About 8 years ago I had a tire blow on the way to Watkins Glen for a weekend race. I spent most of the day in Watkins Glen looking for a spare tire for the ride home. Plenty of repair garages to install the tire, but no ST tires in my size and load range. Finally, a customer in one of the repair shops offered to sell me the tire off his landscape trailer (that was at his house). I took him up on the offer, fortunately. You guessed it - on the way home another tire blew. This time the tire had picked up a bungee cord that was apparently on the highway, as it was still stuck in the tread when I removed it. I spent the rest of the 100 miles home praying that I wouldn't have another flat.
