Carrier Air V Problem?

We have a used Outback with Carrier Air V AC unit.

The AC Fan doesn't seem to cycle with the compressor.

When I turn on the unit in AC mode and the Fan in Auto mode, the fan comes on then stays on until I turn the unit off, even though the compressor cycles with temperature.

The cold air cycles but the fan doesn't turn off, is that normal?
  • THanks for the responses, will do further testing and report back anything worth noting.

There are two settings for the fan, "on" and "auto". When the fan is in the "on" position, it should operate as you describe. When the fan is in the "auto" mode it should cycle on/off with the compressor.

We leave the fan in "on" mode at night so the noise is constant, otherwise the a/c and fan cycling on/off wakes me up at night. Keeps the air circulating and is great white noise.
  • Not normal for ours, on auto the fan cycles off after the thermostat is satisfied.

Yes. It will eventually turn off if the temp doesn't warm up enough to start the compressor again.
