Carrying Emergency Fuel in Jerry Can Attached to TT

I have them in my truck. But no reason you couldn't install a rack on the bumper of your TT. Or if it has a hitch receiver, get a cargo tray and attach to that.

If you use normal Jerry cans, there's no laws that would really affect you. Extra fuel is a must for me.

There are many opinions about them here. They're all wrong. Just kidding. There are a lot of knock offs out there though. Stick with these:

I purchased my "Jerry can" at http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/GJC20 four years ago. The can is made in Great Britain and hasn't leaked a drop. I made a bracket to hang the can on the ladder on the back of my RV.

I like this place for top of the line Jerry cans, mounting systems and accessories.

If my tank was as small as yours, I would mount at least two of the 5 gallon cans to the back of my travel trailer.

I don't know about those Rover Parts Jerry cans. The first thing I noticed when I opened your link was this warning:

*Note: Federal law prohibits the use of this container for the storage of fuel.

I often wondered where the term Jerry Can originated.

Now you have your useless trivia for the day.

No problems doing it.

Do make a practice of running the jerry can fuel thru the car every so often so it doesn't go stale and cause even more problems.

A real "Jerry Can" is not CARB compliant so you will see this warning posted by many retailers to circumvent U.S. regulations. I don't think there is a CARB compliant can made that is worth buying.

The link to Lexington Container that Bruce posted is one of the better deals I've seen since it includes shipping. I live near a Fleet Farm store and the can they sell is top notch and includes the spout.

I too carry extra fuel - sometimes two Jerry cans... I learned real quick back in my working days when driving a JEEP J-series WORK TRUCK that got around 8-10 MPG and only had a 10 gallon gas tank. The closest town with fuel was over 80 miles away going across the back roads of AZ and NM.

I am 'NOT' in favor however to carry them on the rear of a vehicle. This is an instant explosion when you get rear-ended...

I carry mine either on the front deck of my OFF-RoAD POPUP camper or in the back of my truck bed.

This is only one of many PLAN Bs to try to cover all you need to have available for emergencies. It is a never ending task to always be covered. seems like every trip comes up with another 'must have item' to keep one afloat...

This really comes into play when one really camps more off the power grid back in the woods somewhere next to a creek camp site.

My style of camping includes running my 2KW generator every morning for three hours to re-charge my battery bank. Always want to have gasoline for that. I also carry a hand squeeze pump hose to stick down the truck fuel tank to siphon gas if needed. These were called "OKLAHOMA CREDIT CARD" back in the Jeep Days...

Gas cans should be red...yellow is diesel, blue is kerosene. Obviously invest in a quality can. Bear in mind that the rear of any trailer bounces a lot, and most RV bumpers aren't designed to carry much if any weight, so be sure your mounting is strong. I would also consider locking them somehow.
