Changed plugs on my V10

My last gas powered truck was a '98 F150 5.4 Triton and I had the plugs changed out at ~100k miles.

:) Hi, my 2000 Lincoln Navigator with a 32 valve 5.4 L engine has 125,000 miles and still running the original spark plugs. Still runs perfect. I won't change them and I don't know who I can trust to do the job without damaging my heads.

My mechanic pulled the plugs on my 09 Honda Odyssey with 158000 miles on them and reinstalled them. Said they looked great and no need to waste the money. It seemed we changed them a lot sooner when I was a kid, around 50000 miles, and they would look worn out.

I changed mine at 100,000, just like the manufacturer's maintenance schedule called for.

I do mine at 50k miles. Yes even the supposed 100k mile plugs. They are cheap and easy to do.

I don't know why people brag so much about going past 100k miles on plugs? (Not you OP).

Your mechanic pulled the plugs with 158k on them and reinstalled them? There is much more to a plug then a ground electrode/electrode. Over time the copper, iridium or platinum core, insulator and insulator nose can fail or crack. This is something you can not visually inspect. At 158k after removing all the plugs it would be wise to put new ones in. I would think most mechanics (excluding yours) wouldn't disagree with that, including this home mechanic. No doubt they can potentially last the life of the vehicle and some autos are easier on plugs, but removing them at that mileage and not installing new is a head scratcher.

Kind of my thought also. I asked him to change them while he had the van replacing the timing belt and tensioner as part of Hondas PM. My wife picked the van up so I didn't get a chance unt the next day to talk to him. They will be changed when he replaces a bed rear wheel bearing. I'd change them but it a PITA to get got he back side plugs.

He probably knows it's a PITA to reach the back ones, so when he pulled the first one and thought it looked good he saved the effort of changing all the plugs.
Just a thought?
Once I was there with half the work done, why not spend a few dollars for peace of mind?

:) Hi, if you are referring to me, the plugs on my Lincoln are very difficult to do with half of the engine under the firewall. And I don't want my heads ruined. So I will only have them changed when they act up. Plugs cheap, labor not! Easy to do, not on mine.

My 09 F-250 with a 6.8L says to change them at 80,000. I'm at 70k now so early next year they will get changed.
