Hoping to solicit some of the collective advice from the gurus on the forum about a new truck purchase. I've been lucky to own a few great trucks: 2001 7.3 powerstroke, a 2007 LBZ duramax, and just sold a 2003 cummins 5.9. All were great vehicles and I've been looking for similar replacements with lower miles. However, the only similar model trucks in my area with low miles are priced the same as the new vehicles and come without many of the amenities. Supply and demand I suppose.In any case, I figure for similar pricing I should look at the Dodge 6.7 and Ford 6.7. You are going to get comments about the CP4 fuel pump failures on the Ford. But best I can tell from reading various diesel forums is that has been a problem on the first year of two of the 6.7 and not the later years. And not a lot of them at that.

6.7 has been problem free for us on our 2012 Ford. A couple of minor problems that were easily fixed is all.

You've asked an honest question yet this thread will probably get ugly. There's even a good chance it will get locked.I've had Fords all my life: 7.3, 6.0, 6.4, and two 6.7s. That being said, get the truck you like between the Ram and Ford. Both are great trucks and will pull a tree stump out of the ground.

Looks like the fuel pump issue is already covered LOL. Towing wise, the Ford gets a very much improved exhaust brake with the 2015 refresh. The brake brings its performance for slowing down up there with RAM (or just a little beyond). Ford had a valve issue for the 2011 and part of the 2012 production run. Basically the valve may drop into the engine.RAM had a major frame update for 3500's in 2013 and afterwards. 2500's followed in 2014. In 2013, RAMs also went to a newer DEF emissions system which is better than the 2007 to 2012 non-DEF system they used. If you prefer the Ford, I'd go for a 2015 or later model year. RAM, make sure you get one with the updated Frame. And if you need PTO, make sure it has the Aisin transmission.

Go drive all three and buy the one YOU like the best, because I like RAM and have had three, does not mean you would. It is your money and your truck. Financing on a new truck is cheaper and easier to obtain, if you are doing that.

Open the hood, that should give you reason to consider ease of working on it if keeping past the factory warranty.

Completely agree. Drive both and buy the one you like. If you like them both, buy the one you can get a deal on. Honestly, that's why I went Ram. At the time, I couldn't get as good of a deal on a Ford or Chevy as the Ram dealer was offering.

Remember both come in multiple trims. Test drive the trim level you want. I noticed between the Tradesman Rams and the Ram I bought there was a difference in "butt" feel between the two seats. DW didn't like it and that's why I didn't go with the Tradesman, but others are fine with it. Since you are going to be towing, get a comfortable seat.

The CP4 pump is a non issue now the bugs are are worked out. Cost of service as mentioned above will be lower on the Ram.

Take both for a spin and the one that feels better buy it. Myself I would look at the GM twins before the Ford at lest drive then too.

Wouldnt buy a '16 Ford as its a 17yr old platform and getting a significant chassis update for '17. If buying today it would be between GM and RAM.

ALL the new diesels CAN suffer from emissions related issues. Its kind of inevitable when you see how many sensors are on these new trucks. Just takes one to go bad and your in limp mode.
