My dad owns a 1996 Grand Cherokee with the 5.2 V8. That thing has been one problem after another...
Wiring gremlins kept going through batteries to the point that he installed a cutoff switch and now he manually disconnects the battery every time be drives it.
Exhaust manifold cracked/leaked and he finally got that replaced... then the muffler rusted through.
Last winter my sister went to use it (for the 4wd), it rolled down a hill into a tree. Turns out the brake line had rusted through and when she hit the brakes she pumped out all the brake fluid. Thank God it was literally down a small hill into a small tree... not at highway speed.
Just recently he noticed its leaking oil like crazy. It appears as though the oil pan is leaking.
Granted that sucker is 18 years old, but its got less than 80,000 miles on it. They drive it every other week or so, its a spare car and 4wd for bad weather. The amount of money that he has spent on that thing is absurd. He could have cut his losses a long time ago and just bought a new vehicle.
The Wranglers, on the other hand, appear to run forever.
Just curious, does it sit outside on a gravel parking area? - spoon059Explorer IIMy dad owns a 1996 Grand Cherokee with the 5.2 V8. That thing has been one problem after another...

On Edit....he does own a 2113 Caddy though and gets one every two years.
My mother retired from a GM/Chrysler dealer. She handled warranty claims for both mfg's for ~40 years.
I can say my parents had one Chrysler product a '96 Grand Cherokee and that was the end of anymore Chrysler products to say in a manner to keep it civil.
Lets keep it civil but please tell me the issues the GC has a very high rating from KBB and other rating companies. Have to say if she had issues and worked for a dealer and couldn't get it fixed, then maybe she should have found a better dealer to work on it Troy. Like Ford's dealers there are good ones and bad ones.

Oh the dealer didn't have a problem fixing the GC, but after a transmission replacement, a water leak from the rear hatch, several motors on the electric seats, front suspension was a strait pipe that eat tires, and the cracked cylinder head was the last straw for my dad.
I think the two pile of heaps they owned was a early 80's Citation and the '96 Grand Cherokee.
Guess I've been lucky all these years, have owned new Jeep Grand Cherokees, Wranglers, Patriots, a Liberty, a Compass. A Doge Omni GLH, a Daytona, a Shadow and well, you get the picture and never had the first problem with any of them..guess I got lucky:B... That started back in 1984 or so.....but never owned a Dodge / Ram truck until 2010...still have the Jeep too, according to Consumers report, they're terrible...not been my experience, so I dropped Consumers Report:) - NC_HaulerExplorer
