Cooper tires

Put a set of Cooper Discover RTX on the truck in June. So far I am impressed.

Currently have Michelins on our Expedition and had them on our previous Excursion. All I can say is it's a good thing both are 4X4 or we wouldn't be going anywhere in the snow. Dismal in the rain also.

But loving the Coopers so far. Will be putting them on the Expedition soon. Have about 50,000 on the Michelins and they are about done.

Had a set of Cooper A/T3's on our '10-1500. Great traction in all conditions. Only thing I never tried them in was mud. Dry, rain, snow, ice, the tires did awesome! Including being caught in snowstorms in Northern Mi and the Soo, Ont, Canada areas when snowmobiling.

Cheap ole Coopers...no Problems....Firestone Transforce tires? No problem.

Curious how many years old is that tire.

About 4 years from the date code when this pic was taken. The tires had been on the car for 3 years. The cracks have been there since about year two. The tires have never held air very well.

My cars sit outside all the time. Michelin tires don't seem to hold up to the weather down here in Tennessee. Freezing temps in the winter...90 days of 90° and 90 % plus humidity in the summer.

Snow in these tires is flat scary.

A friend of mine bought a 2013 Ford F 150...new. He uses it essentially as a grocery getter, just occasionally towing....probably 250 miles per year. The truck has about 12,000 miles on it. It's a secondary vehicle...a nice one, but not his primary use vehicle.

Our weather goes from lows of -35 (sometimes colder) to highs of + 95. We are a dry climate with the aforementioned great range in temperatures. Although we are a moderately dry climate, we do get quite a bit of snow, that stays around for about 5 1/2 months. Our summers are hot.

Excellent climate for farming, particularly growing grain.

The factory tires have lots of miles left on them ....but they have cracks on them throughout...the sidewalls...the treads. They are not Michelin tires.

I don't want to say which tire make they are, because I can't remember precisely...but they are an old time domestic tire manufacturer that is well regarded....and as I indicated previously, not Michelin.

Right now he's trying to get the tires replaced as in his opinion (mine also), they are not satisfactory. Newish, low mile, easy service miles...should not result in tires that have cracks all over.

I think your tire issue is not uncommon these days and seems to be a multi brand problem.

I wonder why tire cracking happens in newish tires, even those that have not seen hard service ?

Always bought Coopers. Last set I bought the left rear threw the tread and I had to have the box repaired. Month later the left front threw the tread. Took out the bumper, front air dam, fender and rocker panel under the door. Basically the tire failures damaged the whole left side of the truck. Been buying Michelins since.

I have a set of SST MAXX ready to go on a 3500. This will be my first set of Cooper Tires. Michelin LT tires are not very popular out here. It surprises me that people are willing to pay more for them. You can barely give them away here, especially the AT2. Maybe if you never had to drive in snow and ice, and mud they may work. I am not sure how they are even four season rated. Traction is everything, and for me supercedes mileage by a long shot as far as priority in tires goes. The roads are snow covered and icy for up to 6 months at a time here. That alone removes a Michelin tire from contention, and that is not even taking off road performance into account. A 70K tire doesn't do you any good when you pickup is on its roof.

I replace factory tires (after they wear out) with Michelin. On all our vehicles. Have done for the past 25 years. I've been impressed with Michelin quality, durability, grip in all seasons.

They do seem to be at the pricey end of the scale, but I've learned a long time ago, you generally get what you pay for, as the other poster said.

I run another off brand of Cooper, Mastercraft MT's. I had the Mastercraft AXT's and they were an awesome tire. Put about 25k on them and they still had tread left, but I wanted a more aggressive tire. I would put Cooper on before any other brand other than Toyo's.

My best advice on buying tires, and I have done this for 2 vehicles (MH & pickup) in the last 90 days.
Go to simpletire.com and buy a set of Michelin tires.
Yes Michelins are expensive compared to cheaper tires, but my experience with Michelin is you always get consistent first-class quality. Key to it is find a place to buy them for less.
In both cases I saved hundreds of dollars, all tires were less than 6 months old.
