Just did a quick check with Edmunds.com and not having all the options on the OP's truck, the trade in value was just under $29,000 for a clean vehicle with the miles he stated. This is a long ways from what the OP feels his vehicle is worth in trade.

Last spring, about a year ago now, I traded my 2002 Dodge/Cummins off on a new one ton Chevy diesel crew cab with 4 X 4. They showed me all the discounts off the sticker price (over $60,000) and then told me they would give me auction price for my trade. The big auction in Orlando drives the trade in prices for the SE part of the country. My dealer pulled up the auction info on the computer and then three closest sales to mine. They were real close to each other. At time point the difference between the two figures was all that mattered to me. I made them a slightly lower offer, which they accepted. I was told because my truck was a diesel, they would keep it on their used lot for a couple of weeks, to try and sell it. A gas rig would be sent to the auction on the next truck. Mine had 144,000 miles on it. The next day after the trade, my rig showed up on their internet site and they had priced my truck at $995 over, what they had given me for a trade. Three days later, it was listed as sold and was gone. The dealer made a small profit and a sales person made a commision on the sale.

If a dealer can buy a truck similar at the auctions for $30K, why would he give you far more? Auction prices are what drive trade-in values.

+1 on this.

While KBB, NADA, Black Book are "loose guides" it's all about auction prices.

At the end of the day, it's only worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it - which may or may not be the number in some book.

Part of the problem is you are expecting to get the VG value. I think you can drive one 3 feet out of the showroom and they won't give you better than "average" wholesale price. Face it, you will never get what you feel a 2700 mile truck is worth, is just won't happen.

Keep the truck. This deal doesn't make sense FOR YOU.

It's going to be next to impossible to sell the Chevrolet yourself.

The Ford dealer just doesn't want your 1 year old Chevy. It's resale price is high enough that it would compete with a new truck sale. He'd much rather sell a new Ford than an old Chevy, even if his profit from the two sales was the same. The new Ford truck has potential for service work and a repeat sale in the future. Your old Chevy is a one time sale, with the potential of NO service work.

Trade in value is different than retail value. if you want retail for it, you'll have to sell it to an individual.

On the other hand, the Ford Discount is helping bring the new vehicle price down.

$3500 Customer cash, $1000 XLT Customer Cash, $500 XLT Bonus Cash, $1750 XLT Luxury, $1000 Ford Credit Bonus Cash, $750 Trade in Assistance Bonus Cash.

Or 0% for 60 months.

Looks like F150s have some huge discounts also!

I second the advice to simply sell the "old" truck and then buy the new one. Depending on what you are towing, you just need to make sure you can tow it before you get the new truck. Don't expect the dealer to give you more for your trade than they are willing to sell you the new truck for. By the way, was the book price retail or wholesale for your trade?

KBB and NADA are almost always thousands of dollars different from one another. I suspect their offer has to do with their confidence in moving yours for a good profit. Of course some dealers just low ball you and won't negotiate as a rule.

I just purchased a new vehicle and they check the auctions to see what similar vehicles sold for recently. At least around here they do. Most dealers will give you the same price for your trade. Mine was only a $22,000 vehicle, but dealers were within 500 dollars on the trade no matter what I buy as long as you make sure the trade is separate from the new vehicle otherwise you really don't know what they are giving it to you for. The trade price was the same for a Honda dealer, GM Dealer, Ford Dealers since most of them just wholesale the vehicle and seldom keep them on their lots like in the old days unless it's something they really need. Used Trucks are a dime a dozen right now.

I'm sure the dealer is having trouble finding your vehicle value from the wholesalers since it's so new.
