My first Cummins was in a 1971 Ford 9000 dump truck. I think it was a NHC 250, no blower. My Dad bought it brand new for just under 30 grand. It was the first diesel any of us had driven. I got to drive it on a private haul road at the ripe old age of 16. With 25 to 30 tons (normal overload) it would catch and pass all of the other gasoline dump trucks by the end of the day. It would actually get an extra load of coal to the tipple each day over the other trucks. Fast up the hills, and man did it hold back going down hill. Nobody ever bought another gas job. We are living in the promised land of pick ups right now. Any of the big 3 is hard to beat. I buy on the price and the seat!
