Hard to believe. The seals I have removed, would have been difficult to impossible to reinstall so they would pass "inspection"
And vehicles that use DEF are pretty expensive... Hard to believe that someone with such an expensive ride would bother trying this for such a small amount of money.
I did a search and found one member reporting a rumor (stated so) of Wal mart DEF being returned with water and resold... No reports of seal tampering... Sounds like a rumor that as usually happens, grows over time.
Where did you get your info?

I wonder if those people who stole the DEF from Wall Mart were looking for new way to make Meth. It seems they are constantly trying new chemical we average people use on a daily basis so they won't get caught in any radar.
Yesterday is was amphetamines, today they tried DEF, who knows? Tomorrow they may try Crest Toothpaste! (I'm just guessing here.)

It's a shame you can't make DEF yourself while on the road. It would solve a couple of issues at the same time. ๐

Pilot/Flying J's have it in bulk at semi fuel pumps. Here in Syracuse, I think it was around $3/gallon at Pilot. Can fill the pick up here, but not the VW. Have to fill jug up at pump, pour into another bottle and then into VW's tank. Bit of a pain, but far cheaper than VW dealer.

You'll be fine unless you already maybe had really old def in the tank. Think about every scr equipped vehicle or piece of equipment that comes off the assembly line. Some sit for months or even years before being put to work. I let a fleet of scr equipped trucks sit for 6 months as well, with no ill effects.

FYI Watch the DEF when you buy it at WalMart. There have been numerous cases where members have bought there only to find nothing but water in the jug. With Walmarts no questions asked return policy it seems some low life's are buying it, dumping it in their truck, refilling the jug with water and the returning it for a refund.
