- Old-BiscuitExplorer IIIBuy a 3/4" NPT nipple and thread it into drain hole to clean/chase the threads. Work it back/forth.
Then using a 6 point socket and extension put anode rod inside the socket and hand tighten the anode rod.
Socket/extension give you better control vs trying to hold on to end of anode rod - handye9Explorer III carry a 3/4" fitting brush, for cleaning the pipe threads. I also tape (Teflon plumbers tape) the anode threads, which helps cut down on the corrosion.
Here's a link to the brush https://www.homedepot.com/p/HDX-3-4-in-Heavy-Duty-Fitting-Brush-80-719-111/204258909 - djneddExplorerI had an anode rod for a couple of years and it just would not thread easily.I bought a new one on a impulse and guess what -- it threads beautifully. Cheap and Easy is my goal in life.
