Diesel Transfer pump issue

I installed a RDS 60 gallon auxiliary tank with a auto best 12d pump. The pump when turned on works great but when shut off the diesel fuel continues to transfer to tank. Has anyone had the same problem if so how do I stop fuel
  • RDS tanks have a fitting on the side of the tank, near the bottom edge, that the fuel shut-off valve screws into. The fuel line to the truck's main tank attaches to this valve and fuel is gravity fed to the main tank. There is an automatic fuel shut-off in the fill hose to the main tank that shuts off fuel when the main tank is full. It's really a nice system.
  • For the two aux tanks that I've made, I used this valve;

    Just plug the normally open port with some gasket maker to keep dirt/foreign out. Flip on a dash switch and the unit is energized and allows for fuel flow. These were tied parallel with a fuel pump so that both energized and pushed fuel in to the main tank at a higher rate. I also ran a cheap inline fuel filter from the aux tank, and it does catch garbage from inside the tanks over time.
  • I would say you need the shutoff valve.

    The shutoff valve should be a normally-closed type that only opens when the pump is turned on. The valve should close on it's own when power is removed from it.

    The fuel is siphoning through the pump after you turn it off.

    :):)
  • I didn't think you would need a solenoid valve. I will look around for one not sure what I am looking for.
    Thanks
  • I do have a shutoff valve but didn't think you needed one. I thought when you shut off pump it shuts off fuel.

    I would imagine fuel is gravity flowing thru the pump, with your pump you may need a solenoid valve in series with the pump. I considered a solenoid valve when I did my RDS however I just went with the gravity and it works great.
  • Don't you have a shutoff valve where the fuel line comes out of the RDS tank? Mine came with one as part of the optional Diesel Installation Kit.
