Yes it needed tires and brakes and wear parts in the steering but overall the truck was solid.
We get confused and pretend gassers don't require any maintenance.

However the OP has no issues related to the diesel engine.
I'm no ace mechanic but do some of us even understand how a truck works?
I had the same reaction. OP's transmission is giving him trouble so he wants to switch from diesel to gas. I guess if the engine was the problem we'd be talking about switching from an automatic to a manual transmission?
