From a tuner alone? Not likely. Which is it; 3 or 5? There is a big difference. I can believe 3 if you're using EFI LIVE which is a lot more involved than just plug & play tuner. And if you're running EFI, you're likey running more mods than just a tuner.
An intelligent response from someone that knows tuning. AGREED.! and at 3 mpg..they had better be traveling with an MT truck on Hwy tires and driving 60-65 mph with nothing behind the truck..! LOL
As for comments regarding the CP3 injection pump found on Duramx equiped vehicles. It does not require a lift pump per se. It is fully capable of using vacuum to bring fuel all the way from the tank to the rail. When changing filters, a hand operated pump is used to refill the lines/new filter. However, in my opinion diesel is an incredibly dirty fuel...a fuel worthy of more filtration than what an OEM fuel filter can ever provide. What I, like many have done, is install 2ndary and tertiary filtration of the fuel prior to it hitting the CP3. The issue here of course is that now one has extra restriction to consider..particularly when the filters get clogged with crap..and clogged they do. So for me it was logical to add a lift pump..a PPE in fact. I could have gone with a FASS or an AirDog or AirDog II..but the price up here in Canada was prohibitive.
For those that have never seen dirty fuel filters...take a look at what my 2 (prior to lift pump and lrg Aux filter install), filters looked like after 25,000 Km;s
This one is my Standyne FM100 filter at 5 mU (installed post OEM)

this one is my OEM at whatever rating they are.?

Now added to that I have recently installed this homebuilt module:
Filter is a Raccor @ 10 mU / pump is PPE.

Clean fuel..but it does need a lift pump - piping is all 1/2", AN8, JIC fittings the fuel line is some extra Airdog 1/2" fuel line from a buddy. The extra piping is a swing check bypass as the PPE is not a flow through pump. The moduel is installed right by the fuel cooler - drivers side frame rail. BTW, I do fill up at stations that move significant quantities of diesel fuel..
As a last comment on lift pumps for the duramx equipmed vehicles..I would rather have one as opposed to not having one and losing prime all the way back to the fuel tank..that, my friends, is a major Pain in the (_!_)..!!
