OK folks, there have been a few to many diesel vs gas threads that have shall we say gone to "Hell and a hand basket"! So if all of you would put in you BEST, no flaming reasons for going gas vs diese...

No, that is wrong.
I also agree that one does not necessarily need a diesel.
However, other factors do come into consideration. Performance, fuel economy, among others, which may in fact make a diesel a much better choice here.
But there are really no "absolutes". If any particular operator is happy with how their tow rig operates, irregardless of engine style, then far be it for us to say that they need the opposite type of engine.
