To be honest I am not a Dodge guy but when I saw a review of the 1500 diesel getting 30 mpg on highway I thought about it for a daily driver if I got rid of my current rig. My buddy has a 1500 Hemi and I was impressed on the quality of the interior and the smooth ride. My trailers are typically 9K or less so I could still tow them too and those mpg's number are equivalent to my wife's daily commuter car. I bought my diesel for the fuel economy in towing my light trailers and empty (daily driving) not for heavy hauling but the size is a detriment for city driving.
If I considered hauling heavy (3/4 car trailer) I would get the new Ford F350 first choice. I test drove it last time I was at dealership and was impressed with its low end torque, fuel economy and especially the quietness compared to my tuned/open exhaust truck. I like the idea of a warranty so I am not paying a mortgage every time I go to the shop for repair. My buddy tows heavy with his 2014 Dodge 3500 diesel and I went out on a run with him and was also impressed at the ease it towed 25K+ and the solid reputation of the Cummins power plant that would be a close 2nd in my book. It rode better loaded than mines does empty lol

It's funny that the super duty guys say diesel isn't worth it anymore but go over to the ram 1500 diesel thread and diesel is so much bette than gas!
