Diesel vs gas......................

OK folks, there have been a few to many diesel vs gas threads that have shall we say gone to "Hell and a hand basket"! So if all of you would put in you BEST, no flaming reasons for going gas vs diesel, pro and con, I will either leave your thread, or copy and paste pertinant info to the 4 posts of pro and con of diesel or gas. This can include the GM 8.1 vs Dmax or Ford V-8/10 vs PSD etc too.

Be real and honest in you answers, not hear say, flaming etc PLEASE!

If posts are good ones, I will leave, if inflamatory or trolling in nature, they will be deleted! I will get this stick'd to the top for future parusing for those that need this type of info.

Added 6-23-04

We are getting closer to answers I am looking for etc.

Stuff like Ken's - T-Bone posts are good. There are a few others of you that have not posted, some with a 9 point question and answer type to figure out how you went with one or the other. If you are one of those, PLEASE repost in this thread. I may have to look up whom has done this and PM you, but if you think this is you, you now know what to do.

Also, for those of you with $ per gallon for either fuel right now, I would prefer to see a post with ...."in my area, diesel is typically .10 less than unleaded" then explain your numbers. As currently in the Seattle area, diesel and unleaded are any where from 2.05 -2.30 per gallon, with mid test .10 more and premium about .20 more, with equal high low splits. Two weeks ago those prices were upwards of .30 -.40 per gallon more. people were posting $ per gallon that were for me. "I wish" If someone is reading your post a year from now, they may want to know where your paying 1.65, when the price of fuel is over $3 per gallon. Let's keep prices out of it if possible.

Bert and tin tipi, got into a good discusion on the pros and cons of RPM's, drive train etc. I would prefer to NOT see the quote of the other in responding threads, maybe just write a quick wording of re tranny gearing, instead of the whole 40 words or so in that paragragh, so the repsonse is shorter if possible quicker and easier to read etc.

I have deleted some 15+/- posts, that were off topic etc. Please note, I am trying to keep this at the top, as the ONLY gas/diesel thread in this area. So if one is trying to decide, we do not have to go thru this BS any more. As such, I will be deleting ANY future posts close to resembling this type of topic. I may have to change "this" title to a better one, if one has a better sounding title, to be more positive, better claification, let me know here, or in a PM/e-mail, what ever you feel most comfortible with.

Again thank you for all of you that are keeping responses positive, etc.

Also we could use a few more positive reasons to go gas, as many can see I have both gas and diesel, both have a place! Both have positive reasons to buy that fuel, lets keep the threads etc to that purpose only!

I have read all the pros and cons on this thread and I must add my own story. I have a 30Ft fifth wheel that weighs about 12K-13K. I use to have a dodge gas truck which routinly produced 14mpg on the highway empty and 8mpg pulling my 5vr. Last year I purchased a very clean 2003 F250 Diesel with the 7.3L engine. I put a 4 inch exhaust and the AIS air intake system on it along with TW programming chip and it produces 20-28.7 mpg on the highway at 70mph empty and 16-18mpg pulling my 5vr with low head winds 14-15mpg with heavy head winds at 70mph. Yes diesle is a little more expensive but when the mileage difference is so extreme it makes no sense to have a gasoline vehicle. Volkswagon is introducing their diesel in the toureg crossover vehicle in October and it is suppose to get 44mpg on the highway and 29mpg in the city. Diesel is a much better fuel and its only a matter of time before everyone finally realizes it.

You guys really need to start a thread comparing MPG of your diesels. The local 7.3Liter owner up the valley can't get more than 9mpg when he pulls 12k. Whatโ€™s up with you guys claiming 18 MPG with a head wind? Twenty eight point seven. Point seven. Thatโ€™s right he said 28.7 with a truck half a decade old. The same motor that many of you diesel brethren said was junk compared to your new 6.6 liters. What MPG are you guys getting? 39.2 Or something. This is the stuff legends are made of I guess.

Some guys drink the cool-aid and some guys just swim in it.

You already admitted to making up the quotes from people who supposedly hate their diesels. Remember?

The quotes are true its just the way that I portray the proud diesels owners that gets some fellas.

Contact Ford because they will pay you million$ to find out how you get 28.7 mpg on the highway at 70mph and 18mpg towing a 5th wheel at 70mph with a 2003 F250 w/7.3 PSD.

I guess you failed math because I sold my 2003 6.0 PSD before the warranty ran out for $24,500 last fall and because I needed an extended passenger van for 12 people and their luggage. I paid $7,900 for it in March and it has run perfect on long trips . Gas for it is $3.14 here in NJ and diesel is $3.95 so it's the best deal I made in a very long time. So humor me Mr Skid Row on what vehicle I should have purchased that is capable of towing my 41 ft TT or taking 12 people on a vacation trip to Florida and back for $7,900 ? :R

You must be feeling old for 50 is not elderly. I am right behind you.

Seems like the ego settles a bit once the testosterone diminishes at 75 or 80+. Much truth and wisdom seems to come from these gents that own top of the line pullers but are honest enough with themselves to state the truth.

Just seems like performance of any truck is subject to ones ego and that subsides with age. Not with some for sure.

Still the topic is Diesel verses Gas and I specificly seek valid data on the comparison of performance of the BBgasser (8.1liter) against other 1 ton pulling trucks.

Don't need any more post on MPG, Gas prices or what fuel cost this second of the day at my local gas station for sure.

Hauls better 1/2, 3 kids, myself, and a 2003 ez go clays car.. I have added so far, neon lights, clearance lights, back up lights, black light, lift kit, mud tires, and everything necessary to make the golf cart street legal. It's now ready to spend the winter in the garage for more mods. More neon, strobe lights, alarm, a pa system, maintance, and whatever else that comes along. This golf cart does wheelies and travels thru 7 inches of mud when need be. Two honda eu2000i gens twinned to supply the electrical power. Latest addition an 04 Honda Goldwing. My reason for buying gas was simple. I did not want to smell diesel. I did not want to hear diesel. I did not want the extra weight of a diesel engine.

I am satisfied with this choice and would make the same decision if I were to do it again.

Our reason for buying a diesel is simple. We did not feel safe with our gasser towing the trailer we had at the time. Worrying about it heating up, or having to find a gas station every 100 miles really put a damper on things. That is the way we felt about our situation. The decision was the right one for us...no regrets.
