DIY bunk ladder

You'd think new bunk models exceeding 30K would come with a ladder... My son fell from the top bunk this week after almost successfully climbing up and hurt his ankle pretty good. The ladder height I need is 55 inches, but I've mostly just seen 60 inch ladders for sell to the tune of $50-60 bucks. I built this one for $14 in wood, $7 in stain, and $7 in hooks. $28 total but it was fun to do with the kids. I'm on my fourth travel trailer, and this is the third bunk model I've had to build a ladder for. you'd think I could at least get the spacing even on the steps :) I'm about the least handy person I know when it comes to wood working. I'll see if I can get this picture to post.
  • So my current C came with an aluminum ladder. I should keep it when I sell the C? As I gather the ladders are made Cheaply now? ( this ones from '91).
  • Looks good…
One of my old trailers came with one and I kept it until I no longer needed it… it may still be stored with other RV stuff I most likely will never use again and need to get rid of some day…
  • Yep, looks good!
I built one for my previous TT I purchased new. when we bought our current TT I transferred it over. I also built mine. We are probably better off because if the manuf. offered one it would be made of balsa wood and would fall apart after the first year. I can`t give an exact weight spec, but it holds at least 200lbs!!! :B
