Do You Know Height of Your Trailer?

My brother-in-law showed me a web site that has clips of vehicles passing under a train trestle that is 11'8". I only know the approximate height of my rig and need to measure it when I get it out of storage in the spring. Just thought I would post this as a reminder to others who might want to do the same.

Measured mine in both English & metric. Mind you I RV in Mexico where they love archways and are not good at cutting back trees. I have a collapsible fiberglass pole I can hold up to check my clearance.

I ma 11' 7". When i lead caravans I put the highest rig behind me and I have a bright orange flexible pole with an orange plastic golf ball on the top fastened to my rear ladder. It is set about 2 inches higher than the tallest rig. If it clears something, he will, and everyone lower than him will. He just has to stay back enough to be able to stop in time.

Coolerman, would a set of rims without tires let you get through the door? I saw my manufacturer roll out a finished trailer from his shop on a set of rims with an inch to spare height wise.

My TT is supposed to be 10 ft. The issue is not how high it is, it is the fact that folks forget about clearances unit they bump.

If it is close most will look to be sure; unless they forget.

10' 3" Too big to get into my 14' shop with 9'6" door opening...:M

According to the brochure mine is 8'11". With the vent covers it's really about 9 1/2 feet.

I don't know the height of our new Windjammer other than to say it's about a foot higher than our old one!

Years ago there was a mall parkade nearby where I worked. Went for a walk one day at lunch and saw an entire TC at the entry sitting on the ground with the upper front all caved in and no truck in sight. Who takes a TC into a parkade?? That sure must have been loud and a sight to have watched... Sure wouldn't want to be the one explaining that to DW. :S

We sometimes camp at Hamlin Beach near Rochester, NY. The parkway that goes by the park has some quaint old stone arched underpasses. My little Fun Finder easily passed underneath, but I thought many 5'ers would never make it. I asked another camper with a nice 5'er about it and he told me he had to come by another route. He also told me he had a GPS that would route him around any underpasses that would not accommodate his rig. Seems like a good idea to avoid the situation entirely. The only thing worse than backing up a big rig would be making a U-turn in front of a low overpass.

If you look in the upper corner of the video you can see the 5th wheel make a quick swerve to the right as to pull off the road.

Measured mine right after purchase. I used a label maker to put the info on the dash where I can easily see rather than relying on memory.
