Don't Forget To Test The Propane / CO / Smoke Detectors !!!!

Going to mexico in a few days for a week. Decided to check a few last things.
Smoke detector works.
Propane (LP) did NOT work at all. Green light the whole time I hit it with an unlit torch, stinking up my TT.

Took it off and the date is 2000.

Not sure how to test the CO detector probably also 2000, so they are both getting replaced tomorrow.

Glad I checked, I would hate to not wake up!

Thanks for the link. I will be getting one, especially following an article in the present issue of Trailer Life magazine on the subject.
  • Mine are both 12 v from the trailer.
Sad part is you hold the button down, it beeps, the light is green so you think you are good to go.

That's why I tested with actual gas, like at work.
  • I see Kidde is selling one with a ten year battery for about $50. Also it has a display so if it goes off, you can see what the level is. Mine is only one year old so I'll
probably wait another year or two before buying one. I Wish they had them when I got mine.

Re-did ours and noticed on the paper work the manufacture said to replace every 5 years from "date of manufacture". I thought I was supposed to replace every five years. Turns out my "date of manufacture" was already about 1 year old when buying "new". I guess these things must sit on warehouse shelves for awhile. See if you can get a newer date of manufacture if you have a choice.
