Driking from fresh water tank

We drink from the fresh water tank, also from the campground supply and even the potable water at the State Parks.

When you have grown up on Indiana well water, it is all relative.

I only wish I was smart enough to have thought of bottled water.

A cheap screw on Britta filter for the kitchen faucet will remove most "plastic" tastes if you are sensitive to them. I attach it after I de-winterize in the Spring and remove it at the end of the season. Works great b/c we don't have a large enough refrigerator for the pitcher-type Britta filter.

Always fill from the well at home and use fresh water for everything.

EDIT: has ANYONE ever found a salesman who actually camps!? In 20 years of asking I never have.... even spoke to designers/RV builders who do not use their own products! I find that the service guys are more likely to be campers than the flashy salesmen. Just saying.

Perhaps overly cautious would be a better term than stupid?

He is totally stupid and that is a totally stupid statement. At home you drink from a fresh water tank all the time, your city water supply is a fresh water tank. You can drain and sanitize your TT fresh water tank but the city can't. Bottled water is no more pure and in most cases less pure than your fresh water tank unless you put contaminated water in it. I sanitize my tank once a year, probably unnecessary, and we use it for everything, including drinking and have for many years. I do insure that I fill it with only water from an approved municipal source.

Since I really don't want to carry extra wt, traveled empty and filled at the campground. I don't know WTH was in the water, but it was AWFUL. Ran to the store the next morning to buy a jug of water.

One flaw in my fill and drain procedure, trailer was not level in the driveway and likely trapped some water. When I took it back to storage yesterday, I pulled the plugs and opened the faucets letting it completely drain from the low point. Just dawned on me that i failed to pull the hot water tank plug.

Anything else I should or can do? How good are the single stage under counter filters?

Second, contact time, you need about 4 hours of contact time.
Then drain, no need to repeat. A simple flush of the lines and you should be good to go.

Yours is a reasonable question as salesmen oftentimes repeat what they've heard as they've never been a "camper". We've been camping and now RVing for over 40 years and never used bottled water. Our current coach has a three phase filtering system and we've added a water softener. Water from the tap tastes as good as bottled water...don't overthink this.

I chuckle when I see our friends from the north come to Mesa for the winter and buy nothing but bottled water. We are NOT a third world country...but, whatever floats your boat.....Dennis

Perhaps your friends from the North just hate the taste of the water. I travel from Toronto to Florida every year and once I reach Virginia and continue to head south.. the water starts to taste HORRIBLE!!! Florida is the worst, Georgia not much better. I'm absolutely sure the water is SAFE to drink, however it tastes so horrible that I REFUSE to drink it without my Brita to remove taste.

When camping.. I just conserve water and drink more beer

No reason to drain the water out of the lines and water heater, unless you are going to let it sit for months. I've let mine sit for a month and when I get it home I just run some freshwater through everything and all is good.

I wouldn't drink water out of those cheap plastic bottles that bottled water comes in. Bottled water is not nearly as regulated as tap water though most of it comes from a tap. The bottles are so cheap that even leaving them in the sun will release lots of solvents and other bad chemicals into the water. Your FW tank is much safer.
