I have been looking at style cooker does it really do that much better than the old trusty 12.00 coil type countertop cooker ?

I am assuming that your 12.00 coil cooker is like a electric stove ? A induction cooker like the Nuwave is a heck of a lot faster then a electric stove !!! Not quite as fast as gas, but close. It also uses less electricity. And, they do not get very hot, a little residual heat from the pan is all the heat they have. I love my 2 so much that in my house I got rid of the stove. I just have these 2 Nuwave induction cookers, a microwave, and a toaster oven.

The disadvantages is that since they use magnetism to get the pan hot they will not work with aluminum pans. Most pans are made of aluminum. You have to use stainless steel, or cast iron. The Nu wave cookers I bought came with a few pans. I found a few more locally. .
