Electric emergency trailer brake

If anyone is wondering, the emergency cord for the brake got pulled and I didn't notice until several days had gone by and I heard my trailer power supply clicking over and over. Checked and my batteries were down to around 1 volt.
Re engaged emergency cable and recharged the batteries. Batteries appear to be good and brakes still work.
  • Did something similar last year, but only over night. Brakes now still work but seem to need a higher voltage setting.
Can the magnets be damaged by overheating?

Good advice on the batteries, but I suggest that you give the emergency brake system a functional test next time you hook up just to be sure everything is working as it should.

Any idea how/why the cable got is connected?

Exactly, hook up, do your pre-trip, and the last thing you do before you drive off is pull the pin and do a tug test.
  • Been there done that, ya just chg up your batteries and you should be good.

  • I assume the rig was parked? If so, everything should be OK
