Electrical Issue

I have a Fleetwood tent trailer with a World Friendship Power Converter model 8712 or 8725. The refrigerator will not work when plugged into the outlet that normally powers it. It does however work fine when plugged into the power source at the camp site. The air conditioner works fine and the lights in the camper work fine. I have not had electrical problems prior to this issue. Any suggestions?

I am new to this forum so any help is appreciated.
  • Sounds like it has a mechanical knob and switch. Check for 120 at the receptacle. Then at the back of the fridge where the cord connects to it.
This may help even if it is not your exact model.

  • You do not need a 30 amp power source for the refer to work. You can just plug the rig into a 120 vac power source. Using a volt meter check to make sure there is power to the outlet that the refer is plugged into. Once that has been check then we can trace it to the problem.
  • It is a small Dometic unit, don't know the model number. It has 3 power sources, gas, DC and AC. My pop up does not have a battery installed so the fridge has always been powered by AC power. And yes, all lights work and the air conditioning works fine. I did not think to check the other outlets inside the camper because I thought the problem was with the outlet that the fridge was plugged in to. The fridge worked fine when plugged into the camp sites power source. Since I don't have a 30 amp circuit at home I don't have a way to test the outlets inside the camper without returning to the camp site and using their power source.
  • What is make and model of the refer. Most require 12 volts DC to operate the control.
Does the other 12 volt DC items work? Lights, water pump, furnace?
There should be a fuse or circuit breaker adjacent to the battery.
If not then you could have a dead battery or yes the converter could have issues.
  • Thanks for the quick response as I am selling the unit and want to make sure everything works properly. I did check the fuses and reset the circuit breakers. At least I think I did. Apparently the breakers don't trip like a house breaker where they trip to the off position. It appears these breakers break internally and they have to be flipped to the off position, then on to reset.
    Any other suggestions?
