Experiences with solar powered fridge vent cover

My previous campers used computer type fans to help move vent air. With my new TT I am wanting something with a cleaner install and not reliant on my battery for power.
So I'm looking at a Camco refrigerator vent hood with solar panel and fan, and would like to know if this is just a gimmick or if it would be worthwhile.
Thanks.
  • Hey--have had one installed for four years now. Works fine, only downside is that it always runs when the sun shines. Even when the coach is parked and the refer is off. Next time I install one, it will have an on/off switch to control the fan. Think the fan will last longer if it isn't running when not needed.
  • I had one on the last two rigs. Haven't bothered on the current rig though
  • I had one and it lasted just long enough to send it back for a refund. the fan quit working and I sent it back to CW for a refund, put a computer fan in and a switch and it works better.
  • Great information - thanks!
I think installing a switch is a great idea.
  • Hi,

Since I have solar panels, I chose to use computer fans. They have both a switch and a thermostat.
  • Computer case fans use very little current and are not dependent on the sun and from what I have heard the refers are very dependent on ventilation to work correctly and safely.
