In a fresh sign of pressure on U.S. automakers, Ford Motor on Monday said it will shut down production of its best-selling F-150 pickup truck for a week at a Kansas City assembly plant, and temporarily idle three other plants over the next several weeks.The F-150 is the best-selling vehicle model in North America, and a key profit-maker for Ford. However, sales of the overall F-series pickup model line fell nearly 3 per cent in September. Ford dealers had a heavy 95 days' supply of the pickups on their lots at the end of September, according to data compiled by Automotive News.F-150 production at the Dearborn Truck Plant in Michigan will continue without interruption, Ford said.With all of their small car production moving to Mexico I think we will see more of these micro stoppages from Ford, GM and FCA in their US plants. That is concerning. I'm guessing it's a direct result of the gas prices going up. (we all knew it was going to happen)

They almost always shut down a week at a time for re-tooling and maintenance.

I read they are shutting down Mustang production for a month because of slow sales too. still better than keep on building cars when they are not needed!

One reason why sales may have slowed of the F150s especially the 2016 models, is the upgraded 3.5 ECOBoost engine and the new 10 speed transmition coming in the 2017 models with an anticipated 10% increase in fuel mileage. I purchased a 2016 model this past Spring. Now I wish I had waited another year. But still, I really like what I have now.

I have been working in the automotive and the only time they shut down for a week is for retooling a new model and the F-150 is not being retooled. This is do to the fact sales are softening. If you had bought a GM or a Ram you would be certain this would be your last truck but because you bought a Ford and you know their track record you are not SURE it will be your last truck. No wonder they are the number one selling truck. They are the quickest to wear out....HAHAHA!!!

Not from me. Fiats are OK. And I make parts for all brands. But not trucks. SUVs yes, but not trucks. I want y'all to keep buying all of them.
Besides, IF I had bought a Ram, or GM. I couldn't afford to buy another. But I would need one quicker.

However. I did once upon a time make the timing gears for Cummins "B" class engines that go in the Rams. I was even a part of the first "quiet" diesel. But they still sound like diesels.
FYI. Those timing gears are now made in India.

They're the same truck and combine for market share for GM.

They did. But even together, still didn't get close to the Ford.

If you are counting Full-size pickups, then the story is correct that FCA boosted huge incentives to sell more Full-size pickups.

If you were talking sales of all vehicles called Trucks (Light, Medium, and Heavy) by the EPA, it would be Ford, Chevrolet, Toyota, Jeep, Honda, Nissan, Ram, GMC.

If you meant Pickup, it would have been Ford, Chevrolet, and Ram.

Fueled by the industry's highest incentives, Ram outsold the Chevrolet Silverado last month by more than 2,400 trucks, making it the second most popular pickup brand in the U.S. for the first time in at least five years.

The escalation in pickup incentives comes as overall U.S. industry sales have started to flatten or fall slightly and concerns rise about higher incentives that could harm industry profits.

In September, Fiat Chrysler's Automobiles boosted the average incentives for its Ram pickups by more than $1,000, or 29%, to $7,082 per unit, according to J.D. Power data obtained by the Free Press.
