F150 OK for 5ver @ 7000lbs Dry??

If it were me I'd go for the F250 gas truck. I think by the time you price out an F150 with the HD payload package and ecoboost engine you could get an F250 gas truck for the same money. Then you'd wouldn't have to wonder if you bought enough truck.

Analysis failure.

Do you tow your RV as it was equipped from the factory or do you put clothes, food, camping chairs, toys inside it? Anything added in front of the TT axles increases TW; anything behind decreases TW.

5th wheel RVs have axles farther back on the trailer body than TTs. They also have large "basement" storage. So adding 1000 pounds of camping gear will have more than 10% go on the pin.

Oh, there is a that 200 pound 5th wheel receiver in the bed too that TTs do not have.

FWIW, I estimate your Ram is over rear axle and GVWR.

I will simplify this. You need at least 2000 pounds of payload. Open the driver's door of any potential tow vehicle model year 2006+ and locate this sticker. Note what is listed where mine says 2051.

Problem is that, that 7000lb dry 5'er could easily be 8000lbs loaded. That's 1600lbs on the pin. Factor in passengers and add 250-300lbs and you're at almost 1900lbs of payload. No F150's except for the HD Payload have that much CCC. Max Tow F150's only have in the range of 1750-1850lbs of CCC with GVW's of 7650-7700. The HD Payload gets you 8200lbs GVW and apr400-500lbs more payload.

He'll be lucky to find a MaxTow F150 let alone an HD payload F150.
Much better chance of getting an F250. And when you're looking at HD F150's by the time you option them out with the HD payload package you can get an F250 for almost the same price.

JMO but I'd be looking at Ram 2500 6.4's. Early reports are showing pretty decent mpgs.

The only half ton I would recommend is the HD payload F-150 which are almost impossible to find. Something 0.2% of F-150s have it. 1200 pounds dry pin weight plus 200 pound receiver plus people in the cab. Oh, that 1200 will grow to at least 1500 pounds with gear. So few half tons have 2000+ pounds of paylaod you need.

You can get a 3/4 ton gas engine for about $2k more than the same equipment in a half ton.

An f150 crew with max payload will have about 2200# payload give of take and a 4800# rawr. This combo could work for you.

Your dry hitch weight is a little more that 100lbs compared to mine and once I load mine up it's about all I can handle with my 2000lb payload F150. I'd say you need either A F150 HD or F250. It always comes down to payload when towing FW's.

I have a similar size/weight 5'er that I tow with a Ram CTD 2500. My dry pin is 1385lbs, dry sticker weight is around 7400lbs. All loaded I'm around 88-9000lbs with a pin @1800lbs+/-. Throw in the wife and I @ 280lbs and we're over the trucks GVW by 200lbs. Well under the RAWR though.
I don't think the OP can tow that with anything but an HD F150. My RAWR is right at 4900lbs. The F150 and the Ram 2500 will have similar empty rear axle weights. Even if the OP comes in lighter on pin he will be over the RAWR of a non HD.

We carry around 1500lbs of stuff in the 5'er. Maybe more than the OP carries. But it's nice to be able to take what you want and not have to worry about being over loaded.

Almost every 1/2 ton owner towing a lite 5'er is right at the max unless they have the HD payload package.

One way to cut down on some pin weight is by going with the Anderson 5th hitch. You could save 100lbs or so. But IMO if your worrying about 100lbs then you either have too much trailer or not enough truck.

I think you would be happier and safer with more truck or less trailer.
