F250SD/ Mountaineer 285RLD

I am looking at a 2013 Keystone Mountaineer 285RLD, what are your thoughts on towing with a 2011 F205SD 6.2L. My truck has a payload of 3400lbs, and max tow of
12500lbs.GVCWR of 19900lbs.
  • I am pulling a 295 RK Mountaineer with a 2012 F250 4X4 GAS 3.73, and have about 1200 miles to go on a 6000+ mile 5-week trip from Indiana thru Denver, Reno, Tahoe, Moab, San Francisco, Yosemite, the Fed parks in N AZ and S Utah. Right now, in Santa Fe NM.

Lots and lots of mountains on the trip. All is going very well. Averaging 9.3 mpg for the entire trip, despite the extreme hills. This same equipment has pulled the trailer to the East coast twice, and Destin FL twice. My truck is closing in on 20K miles, most of which are tow miles.

I assume my 29.5 weighs a little more than a 28.5, but you didn't state a weight for the trailer. My trailer is about 11.5K lbs. Anyway, it works great for me, and no regrets on the trailer or the GAS pickup.
  • Can your truck handle 2700lbs of pin weight? We have about 1500lbs of stuff onboard and scaled the pin at 2680lbs. If your 3400lbs of payload is with the truck loaded and ready to travel you are good, if not well... I don't know how the power of the Ford 6.2 is. But you can be under the 12500lb tow limit easy as we are at 11000. And with the 05 D/A 3500DRW only 19000lb CGW. So our trailer loaded for the way we camp could be within the specs for your truck.
