For the last several months, I have been going at it with the dealer and factory over this issue.My tank is supposed to be a 31 gallon tank, but based on total mileage per tank and the number of gallons it takes on fill-up, it is obvious that the tank is a 25 gallon tank.When I purposely have run it "dry" several times, it will only take 24.5 gallons. I show them the receipts and they act like I am trying to act like that isn't proof of anything!They have tried to give me every excuse imaginable but won't admit the mistake. Next week, they are taking the tank off the truck and taking it to a gas station to see how much it holds. Suppose to be 31 gallons according to who?If your looking at a brochure, be sure to read the fine print before making too much stink.25 gallon take is pretty typical for a short bed truck. 30+ is typical for a long bed. So which do you have?

All dealerships answer to a Manufacturers Customer Service Representative for the region. The dealer, if you ask has to give you the name and number for this representative.My truck had a power steering issue that the dealer was unable to resolve. They called the rep and he arranged for the power steering unit to be sent to Bosch. Bosch was unable to solve the problem. The same problem happened with every unit they tried. It's basically a noise that sounds like you are out of fluid. It's not loud and I have a written document for a free replacement if the unit goes bad while I have the truck.

Brand new '01 Dodge was supposed to have the limited slip 3.55 axle, and said so on the window sticker. It was an open diff. We were always suspect since it didn't work worth a darn. Fluid change time came around and our suspicion proved true.It wasn't worth the fight for the cost of the 'upgrade'.

Did you pay extra for the 31 gallon tank?

No, thank goodness no issues here like that.
Like the other said, check your VIN and build sheet. It should match. Also, get the part number off of your tank if possible and have them run the part number in the parts department. That'll tell you for sure.

I hope he has found a different dealer to deal with since then. Those are the kind of dealerships that should be closed IMO.

A couple years ago there was a guy with a new RAM 4X4 where the front ratio was different than the rear ratio!

One of the axles was mislabeled. According to the bar code labels, they were both correct. However, one of them was mislabeled, and was the wrong ratio.

Needless to say, it did not drive right! The owner had a devil of a time convincing the dealer of it! Finally, they said they would open up the covers, and inspect them. Told him it would be his $ if they were correct!

Took a few months to get the correct axle sent up and installed.

As Don wrote, OEM's do not take kindly to vendor's screwing up. Shut down an assembly line, and you will pay huge dollars. Cause a recall, they will collect from you.

Being as it has almost been a month since the OP first posted this, and we have not heard back from him, my guess is that his truck does have the tank it was supposed to.

Many years ago I was an inspector for US government vehicles at the port of Bremerhaven in Germany. One of the things we did was actually check to see if the options the government had paid for were actually on the vehicles. I was surprised at the number of times that items weren't included that were on the window sticker. In many cases the government paid for full undercoating and the vehicle either didn't have any undercoating or it just had it in the wheel wells. Sometimes we paid for limited-slip differentials and didn't get them.

One of the most common problems with Dodges back in the 80s were missing bed bolts. In several cases the beds were only held on with two bolts instead of the six that were required.

OEM's Automakers do not have incoming QC and have not for over 20 years! All vendors certify their parts are in spec and meet all the QC standards. If non conforming parts are found the vendor has to pay for a QC sort or provide their own. ALL related down time, recalls, fines and ultimately any and all suits from the end user. The last will never happen as the vendor will already be in bankruptcy from all the back charges. FCA uses a company called PIC to do all vendor sorts unless the vendor can supply their own within two hours of being notified. It's not a pleasant ordeal for the vendor and the cost can close most small to mid sized suppliers.

Not if the vendor put the wrong label on the tank. Change the die over to make the *SMALLER* tank and forget to change over the label code. Happens all the time, happened up at Trenton with the the upper plenum cover. Had 3.3 labels on the cover but the bar code said it was 3.8. Two stations down the line stops and the boss asked why I built the engine with the wrong cover. Reinstalled another 3.3 cover on it and it still wouldn't buy it. Took over and hour to find covers with the correct bar code. You know who paid for the two hours total down time don't you. Yep the vendor, I hear it even happens at the Ford plants Fish! LOL

If it is diesel then are you waiting for it to click and calling it good or are you waiting for the foam to clear and slowly fill it up to the neck? I know I can get an additional 3 gallons in my doing this even with the modified tank vent (Used to be 5 gallons extra).
