Flagstaff Shamrock what to look for

What to look out for besides the obvious(leaks, etc). Anything peculiar to these? Overall very good condition. One roof leak in skylight and fortunately leaked into the shower. Nothing into the walls.
How do you secure the front mattress in transit? Seems to just 'hang loose'?

Any help appreciated.

you might use a multimeter on the controls, to determine if that is the problem or if it's the mattress.

PUGs/solar blankets and Reflectix are talked about almost daily here. a quick search here on both, will give you weeks of reading.
there are literally thousands of posts/threads about them.

PUGs are the #1 mod for hybrids.

Got to use it this weekend. Everything worked perfectly. Used a couple ceramic heaters on both ends(both on low or the circuit breaker would trip). Kept things sufficiently 'warm' even though it was in the low to mid 20s at night. Everyone that checked it out said it looked brand new. It really did good. Still not convinced tent ends are 'our thing' but it was fun.
Oh and the mattress heaters did not work and reading about them that doesn't sound like much of a surprise.

Did you use Popup Gizmos or the solar blanket equivalent?
Did you use Reflectix on the inside?
our heated mattresses have worked perfectly for over 8 years now.
I've rarely seen anyone with bad ones. Maybe a bad controller a few times.
do you know that they heat up very slowly and will be warmer once you lay on them?

Fix was simple. No real damage. We had a few dry days and I put a dehumidifier in the bathroom to dry things thoroughly. I sealed the crack. It rained. No leak.

Anyone know if there are any outlets on a different breaker? I tried a few but the same one would trip if both heaters were on high. Oh and the mattress heaters did not work and reading about them that doesn't sound like much of a surprise.

How long was the skylight cracked? It don't take long for water to get in and and soak under the rubber roof. I've had that experience but it wasn't the sky light it was the gray water vent, never found out where the leak was/is. hope it's fixed.

If you don't have a vent cover, such as a MaxxAir or similar, strongly suggest you invest. About a 30 minute installation and you can leave the vents open even if it rains. No oven? Bummer, no freshly baked cookies on Saturday night. In any event, watch the cooking and humidity. Still confused as to why someone would buy a hybrid and not use the bunkends...oh, well.

It's been used a grand total of 4 times. This one doesn't have an oven..?? Oh well. The sealant around the skylight had a crack in it. Will be fixed first thing. It does have a vent in the bathroom also. Thanks for the info!!

We had the Rockwood ROO, twin to the Shamrock. They're great trailers and you feel like you've had a chance to really enjoy the outdoors. Agree with Dan on why someone would buy a hybrid and not use the bunkends, but whatever..... No you do not need to spray anything on the tents. The fabric used is already coated with something like a vinyl...not at all like the old tents. If you find as you're using them that you see dirty smudges inside, I always used a mix of Woolite and water. Cleaning the outside is as simple as whatever good car wash liquid you're using. Be sure to allow them to dry completely before closing up. You mentioned a leak on one of the skylights....did the original owner have vent covers installed? If not, they're pretty inexpensive and easy to install...would get on that right away. It will let you have a vent open and if it rains, you're safe.

Re the stove....if it's never been used, you'll likely need to bleed the lines to get the oven to light. It's as simple as just lighting the burners on the top and let them run for minute, max. That will purge the lines and make the oven lighting easier. Warning, you'll almost have to stand on your head to light the oven unless you got lucky and have an electric lighter, which is doubtful. Get yourself a flashlight and take a good look first. The lighting point is on the right side of the middle assembly, toward the rear. Seems like they made it as inconvenient as possible. If you know you're going to use the oven again later in the day, you can turn it all the way to the lowest setting before shutting it off and propane usage is minimal and you don't have to do the headstand again.

One suggestion re the bunkends and closing up. Yes, the tentend does just sorta hang there even when snapped. If you have only sheets on the bed, you're find just closing up with those still on. Adding a blanket or quilt is too much bulk and could make closing up tricky.

Enjoy your Shammy and make lots of happy memories.

No, you don't have to.

Mine developed pin holes on the canvas near the door opening because it was pinched by bolts set too close. Hard to explain, but the cable brackets come in close contact with the rod that protrudes on the inside. Now that was on a 2006, they may have fixed it by 2009. Aside from that, water can enter through light cut-outs and basically any opening.

Weird that they bought a hybrid but never used the tent ends.:h

why would you even buy a hybrid, when a TT would've been a better purchase?

wrap the side straps around the folded down C-hoop and then snap them on.
helps keep the mattress against the bunk door when vertical.

I saw the snaps and didn't know where they snapped into. Thanks!
Fortunately I don't think the doors have ever been opened. Older couple just used the interior bedding. Nothing caught in the doors. Doesn't look to be leaks but, yeah sometimes you never know. Heck the stove has never even been used 🙂
