Fleetwood niagara lift system

Hey guys, I'm new here...I have a question...last year I bought a 2005 fleetwoood niagara pop up. I went to open it up a few weeks ago and while cranking it up, I got distracted and let go of the crank...the roof had barley raised 6 inches. When I resumed cranking, the roof dropped...at first I figured a cable broke, but all 4 cables are tight. The crank shaft also spins freely....any ideas on what has happened? Has this happened to anyone here?

I found some videos on Youtube.com that may be of help. One was that the chain and brake/clutch got lubed and defeated the brake. Here is one that gave some good info. 2002 Coleman lift

No it just spins...don't really hear anything and there is no resistance

Well I tried cranking it in the down direction and the cranks shaft just spins, doesn't catch anything...

If you do this correctly, you'll hear a clicking sound as you crank it up. It's a rachet system.

Before you tear things apart try cranking the crank in the down direction until it stops then give it a partial revolution past that. There will be some resistance but that's okay. Now try cranking up and see what happens. This somehow adjusts the clutch. My late friend and Coleman/Fleetwood dealer told me about that. Try not to over crank when putting the top up because that can have the opposite effect.

Clutch assembly right behind the crank assembly is bad. Parts are available on the internet but pricey and hard to find. Had the same thing happen to my Niagara.
