Ford F-150 V6 DIESEL

Well, looks like Ford sees that there is a demand for smaller diesel trucks. Looks like RAM will finally have some competition in this niche. I honestly wonder how many more MPG they'll be able to eek out compared to RAM given the aluminum body and 10 speed transmission. They should also have a far superior payload since they have plenty of overhead to re-invest in stronger frame and suspension.

Also wonder how much better the real world MPG will be for the diesel ford versus its ecoboost counterparts.

Personally, I think the only way Gasoline engines will ever match diesel fuel economy wise is if they can get Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition to work reliably (HCCI)

    I'm still not convinced these diesels will sell like hotcakes.
  • I don't know, 30%-40% better mileage than gasoline and more payload, technology, space and creature comforts over the Ram that is selling well. Once fuel prices begin to go back up, they will sell very well. Ford should have done this a long time ago.

    I'm currently living in Belgium at the moment and I'm guessing 70%-80 of the passenger vehicles over here are diesel. Diesel fuel is 20% cheaper, and when you are paying $5-6 a gallon for gasoline, making the switch to diesel is a no brainer. Lower fuel bills and longer times between re-fueling are always good.

  • I think Adam R has the right answer.

    I'm guessing automatic transmissions, air conditioning, power windows, etc. didn't sell like hotcakes at first. It probably seemed like an unnecessary expense.

    I also think that in addition to Electrics, we'll be seeing more diesels in cars sold in the USA
  • Yep, and when enough people switch to diesel the producers of diesel fuel can jack the prices sky high once again. :@

    F150, more power, more torque, ,beefier frame, more payload. Then the drive train will also have to be beefed up. Skip the 150 already and go to the F250. :?
  • I see the 1/2 ton diesel market being strong in time to come. Why? Cause fuel savings and plus not everybody needs or wants an HD truck.

    Like I mentioned in my post, I'm surprised that everyone is running diesel over here in Europe, but the fuel is still 20% cheaper than gasoline. I'm no chemical engineer, but if they can make synthetic motor oil out of methane, they should be able to crack more crude into diesel if necessary to keep up with demand.

    The other thing that people don't get until they have owned a diesel, is how much more enjoyable they are to drive over a gas engine vehicle. 3 of my 4 vehicles are now diesel and if I could get a get a diesel 100 or 200 series Landcrusier in the states, I'd be 4 for 4.
