There is some good advice in the above quote by Papcam.
You don't go off of "dry weight" becuase loaded up and ready to go camping you will likely be 1000-1500lbs over the dry weight.
A good rule of thumb is to use the GVWR of the trailer (the max weight rating for the trailer, with cargo) against the tow rating of your tow vehicle.
I like to stay around 80% (GVWR Versus tow rating) if possible for good towing performance. I know some will disagree with this philosophy and that's OK, this is just what works for me.
IE - the GVWR of my Layton TT is 6,000, the tow rating of my 00 Expy EB I believe is 6950, so currently I'm between 85-88%. My Expy handles the Layton OK, but I would not want to ask much more of it.
