The OP has a Fiat pickup and they have recalled 1.8 million pickups because they fall out of park. He thinks a door lock that could freeze is a big deal?
Actually I have 8 Fiats and around 15 or so Fords not counting the few Toyotas and other various makes and models that I have to worry about.
Also if you reread the Ram recall it doesn't say anything about it falling out of park it just says that it can be pulled out of park without applying the brake pedal. That is a feature that had to be added because of lack of parenting letting kids plat around in the vehicle. I'm one of those parents because my daughter did it when she was 4.
Have a great day. ;)
I don't know how old you are but the shift interlock has been around for a long time. This is an outright failure of the system in a modern vehicle. I can only think of one vehicle off the top of my head that I owned that didn't have this feature and I believe that vehicle had a faulty switch. Maybe you didn't mean it to sound like this was a recent addition but that is the way it came off.
No, I didn't mean it was a recent addition I just mean that now that people know it shouldn't be a life and death thing like the earlier poster made it out to be. The door handle IMO could be a bigger problem if someone couldn't get out in an emergency.
The shift lock has been around for a lot of years and we are trained to it now to the point that if the recall hadn't came out then most of us would not have known there was a problem until a child accidentally pulled it out of gear.
