Ford tow guide 2015 and Super Duty @33,000 GCVWR

Here is the place to look up the tow guides.

If you click on 2015, you can see the ratings for the new 2015 Transit Van, as well as other Ford vehicles. Final guide will be published in September 2014 with all the rating on all vehicles.

http://www.fleet.ford.com/towing-guides/

The F-650 is rated at 33,000 GCVWR with a gas engine! That would make a great toy hauler motorhome chassis.

Ford will be offering 1.5 and 1.6 Liter Ecoboost engines. The Explorer will come with 2L and 3.5L Ecoboost engines, along with the standard 3.7L gas model.

The diesel F-350 is rated at a maximum 35,000 GCVWR, while the F-450 pickup with 4X4 and diesel engine is rated at 40,000 GCVWR with the right packages. WOW!

So what is the "high capacity trailer tow package" ?

Easy to raise numbers but what did they do to justify the numbers?

F650 V10 is 365HP, and is paired to the 6-speed TorqueShift, so it'll probably perform fine.

Fred - The 1.0L EcoBoost is for sale! It is available now in the Fiesta.

I saw the Transit Specs, and I was a little disappointed. For towing, it simply doesn't come close to replacing the E-series. It does look like the E-series Wagon was thrown another lifeline, at least for a little bit. And SportMobile is finishing up development on a fiberglass E-series body clone to keep building vans using the cutaway chassis.

They actually have a lot of power. Probably not going to win any uphill races when you have a loaded dumptruck towing a backhoe, however it will out-run a 1990 diesel dump truck at the same weight. It is also about 800 pounds lighter weight than a diesel truck. The diesel engine and transmission are much more weight, + emission controls, DEF tank, ect. It will have 362 HP.

And the F-650 can be equipped with natural gas tanks, then run $2 fuel. That is a HUGE plus to most municipalities who get huge federal rebates for buying natural gas vehicles.

Yes the Transit specs are pretty good. The full size Transit wagons can tow about 5,000 pounds while cargo versions can tow around 6,000 - 7,000, probably more dependent on the load within the van limiting the overall trailer weight.

I find it interesting that there are so many Ecoboost engines.

1.5L, 1.6L, 2L, 2.3L and 3.5L ecoboosts! Ford is also building a inline 3 cylinder 1L ecoboost, that will not be sold here - yet.

The document says it is "preliminary" and actual ratings will be published Sept 2014. I also noticed that the footnotes on some of the ratings, but not all, reference the J2807 standard. The Transit van with the 3.2L diesel engine is interesting for towing smaller trailers.
