Forest River Micro Lite- I ripped the whole corner off

Oh man, what a bad week this past week was. I've always heard that a bad week camping was always better than a good week working, well I'm here to tell that's not true. haha

I pulled into one of those little places that sells ice by the bulk and they had built an awning over it. I was distracted by something else and sure enough when I went to pull off I hit it and it tore into my 2017 Forest River Micro-Lite TT that I love dearly and finally had gotten all the kinks out of.

I hadn't gotten an hour from the house when it happened, but thanks to Gorilla Tape I was able to patch it up enough to keep the rain and sunshine from coming in from the huge gash it has. We had reservations for Bahia Honda in the Keys and I wasn't about to just give that week up so easily.

I have insurance but still have a 1000 dollar deductible, not sure how its going to work, I called my insurance company and was told to take pictures and to get an estimate and they would mail me a check to get it fixed. There goes my summer of camping I'm afraid.

I was wondering if it might be better to upgrade a couple of feet and see if they would take it in as a trade. At least I could savage my summer of camping with the grandbabies.

    After it's fixed I'd trade it. You may be chasing random leaks and squeaks for years.

    Yeah not sure what to do, as of now I'm going to get it fixed, I have an appointment for Tuesday for a estimate. It might be totaled, but I was told that for one to be totaled it would have to cost more than 80 percent of its present value to be totaled.

    No, unfortunately its too bad to continue using.

    What I was thinking which could be totally off course, was to get an estimate and file with my insurance get the check and present them with the camper and the check. Or just have them give me an estimate and I give them whatever their estimate was and the camper on a trade in. I do love the camper, If I traded it in I would get the same make but make it a small bunkhouse so I could take our grandkids when they wanted to go. Its a 2017 model but we bought it in 2015. I got one of the first 2017 models that came out. Who knows??

    Sorry to hear, I helped a friend duct tape her weekend warrior closed after catching a overhang and peeling it open like a can of tuna.

    In her case they totaled it and replaced it. Might want to fight for a replacement check and go bigger.

    I would think you'd take a huge hit if you tried to trade it in as is. Dealers typically want to invest zero dollars into a trade to resell. If you truly love the rig, why the need to trade up? Either way, I think you'd be better off repairing it.

    You'll get next to nothing on a trade.
    Get it fixed and go camping.

    The question is can you tape it up and use it, (a bandaid if you will) and get it fixed after the season.

    It might be worth a look at a another TT, if you can handle the trade-in hit. You do have the deductible in your favor.

    Finally, a blend of both, that is used it with a quick fix while you take the time to find another TT.
